Coates Parent Newsletter - Mar. 12

Covid-19 Information

Please continue to read all correspondences from the superintendent or school board related to monitoring and addressing virus-related issues.  The latest info can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/news/coronavirus-update .  Our 4th grade field trip to Jamestown, originally scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) is canceled.  We are working to see if rescheduling is possible and will communicate with 4th grade families as soon as we can.

If FCPS closes schools for a period of time and we activate a distance learning program, you will receive information on how to access assignments for your child on every platform we have (News You Choose, social media, Remind, etc.). Stay tuned!

Principal’s Message

Coates Families,

Starting this week, I’ll be sending home a short News You Choose each Thursday.  We’ll keep sending a paper copy of the monthly parent newsletter on the first Thursday of each month for the remainder of this year.  My weekly email will serve as a timelier sharing of current events at school and a reminder of upcoming events.

I hope this change keeps you better informed and connected to school.  This idea came from our discussions earlier this year when we were developing the Home-School Compact.  I hope it helps!

As a parent in FCPS myself, I’m very aware that schools and the school system sometimes hit us with too much information!  I never want to drop so much on you that our info does not get read.  So expect brevity as much as possible.

See below.  Watch for the next weekly Coates Parent Newsletter News You Choose email next Thursday.

Thanks! Jesse Kraft, Proud Principal

Vaping Presentation

Thanks to PTA for inviting Brian Maslowski , FCPS Alcohol, Tobacco & Drug counselor, to talk to our parents about vaping.  We learned a lot, and we’ll be prepared to recognize when kids vape (it’s not as easy as you think) and to talk to them about the many harmful effects of vaping.  If you missed it, do yourself a favor and check out the videos at https://www.fcps.edu/vaping/parents . There have been no cases of vaping at Coates, but we want to keep you informed on issues your kids may face in their teen years.
