Good Morning Shrevewood Family,
I know many of you have questions about what the next few weeks will be looking like for your children. As FCPS communicated earlier this week, they have been working on a plan for distance learning. Though we have never implemented a distance learning plan, a Shrevewood ES team spent the last two days working on what that could look like and will continue to do so today. FCPS will be putting out more guidance about the phases of the plan and what the support will look like. Please continue to read Dr. Brabrand’s and FCPS’ communication as those contain the most up to date information.
Here is a link to a survey that we have created to determine the needs of household access for distance learning. Please respond as soon as possible. We would appreciate a response by the end of the day and will be reaching out to families we do not hear from on Monday.
The office will be open today from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Once we know what Monday will look like we will communicate those office hours as well. Please know that in the next few days, we will be communicating to you our Shrevewood specific plan for distance learning.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Joshua DeSmyter Principal
We are sad to announce that Bingo Night is canceled. We want to be proactive and keep everyone healthy and feel that this is the best for our community. We want to thank the Bingo committee for all of their hard work leading up to this night. We will be administering refunds for pre-purchased items, but we ask that you are patient with the process. If you have any questions please contact ptaboardshrevewood@gmail.com.

So, why does love of learning matter?
Developing a love of learning is highly beneficial for an individual. It means that they are intrinsically motivated to deepen their existing skills and abilities, or learn something completely new. Since intrinsically motivated action is correlated with positive emotions, those who act on their love of learning may also have enhanced mental and physical health. Additionally, individuals who love learning have the desire and ability to overcome challenges, due to a sense of autonomy and control over their environment.
On a group level, love of learning is crucial. The best leaders have an insatiable desire to learn. It’s love of learning that compelled Benjamin Franklin to fly a kite and make significant advances in electricity. It’s love of learning that led Nelson Mandela to study Afrikaans - the language of his oppressors - and read a smuggled copy of Shakespeare, while locked in Robben Prison. And it’s only by learning and experimenting that we continue to grow.
