From the Principal's Desk
Dear Members of the Chantilly Community:
Good afternoon. Like you, I’m still processing all the steps that Division leadership are taking to protect students, staff, and families from the Coronavirus. I was on the conference call earlier this week when the decision was made to cancel all overnight travel and day trips to New York City. A lot has happened since then and I know that the situation is evolving almost by the hour. While the financial, logistical, and political implications of all the decisions being made by FCPS leaders loom large, I believe that everyone involved remains committed to the goal of protecting the health of families and staff. I recognize that new questions emerge as soon as some are answered. How will distance learning work if schools close for a long period of time? Will the closure of schools last for weeks? Months? What will happen to extracurricular activities for the remainder of the year? Prom? Graduation? The list could go on. I encourage everyone to not look too far ahead and know that we will work together to figure out each challenge. I have resisted my inclination to communicate with the community early and often due to the fact that decisions are being made at the Division level rather than at Chantilly HS. In situations like this where so much is unknown and fear is influencing one’s thoughts, we can start to feel overwhelmed. We will all work together to keep our students and each other safe by relying on a mixture of science, pro-active communication, and common sense. We are fortunate to live in one of the most highly educated and well-run communities anywhere, and I’m confident in our ability to work through whatever comes our way. Stay tuned for more information from FCPS. If you have Chantilly HS-specific questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Scott Poole

Recent Student Successes
This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students. I plan to meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

-
Isabella (Bella) Hunt is an articulate young lady who puts her best effort into everything she does. She works hard to communicate effectively with her teachers. She is a compassionate role model who tries to include those around her who may feel left out. I look forward to hearing all the wonderful ways that Bella changes the world. Ms. Amanda Lombardi
- Seven staff members nominated Eden Lankford for this award. She is a model student in the classroom, helps struggling peers, and a ray of light shines when she smiles at others. Ms. Rebecca Daniels

Robert is kind to all students and not only is a great self-advocate, but he seeks help for others when needed. Mr. Peter McDonough
