A Message from Franklin MS

Dear Franklin Families,

Thank you for sharing your concerns and questions regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) with me. Student and staff safety is always our first priority.  I can assure you we are following all guidance and protocols from the Fairfax County Health Department to ensure that our school is clean and safe. I encourage you to refer to the email message sent out last evening by FCPS  Superintendent, Dr. Brabrand.

The Virginia Department of Health is closely monitoring and investigating any reports of illness potentially associated with Coronavirus throughout the state. To protect individual confidentiality, health officials do not share specific details regarding their health investigations but they work in close coordination Fairfax County Health Department staff to follow up on all reports of illness that may impact public health. Health department staff are currently in the process of conducting contact investigations throughout the community to determine any potential exposures to individuals with people who tested positive for COVID-19. To this point, the health department has not communicated direct connections to illness with FCPS or Franklin MS. However, if parents or staff are contacted by health department personnel, they should follow instructions and notify our staff with this information.

According to the health department, the risk of this illness to the general American public remains low. At this time, the following people have an increased risk of infection:

  • People who have (or had) close contact with people diagnosed with coronavirus disease (COVID-19)
  • Health care workers who cared for patients diagnosed with COVID-19
  • Travelers returning from countries where COVID-19 is widespread
  • People who live in places where there is community spread are at a slightly increased risk of exposure. However, in other communities, including Fairfax County, the risk to the general public remains low.

To learn more about how health department staff conduct their investigations, or anyone with specific questions involving the ongoing situation, should call the Health Department: 703-267-3511 or the Virginia Department of Health: 1-877-ASK-VDH3.

This is a rapidly changing situation and information is being shared as it becomes available.

Please continue to reach out to me with questions and concerns and check https://www.fcps.edu/news/coronavirus-update for the most current FCPS information regarding this situation.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright
