Health Updates

Timber Lane is committed to supporting the health and well-being of our students.  In the following days/weeks we will be revisiting some of our school-wide and class-wide rules for preventative and healthy habits.  Teachers will discuss how we can demonstrate the healthiest habits to present this information in the most appropriate and developmental way possible.

Some of the following teaching points will take place:

  • The importance of following handwashing protocols before snack and lunch
  • The importance of handwashing after incidents where one may sneeze, cough, use a tissue (especially at times students are sharing classroom materials)
  • Not sharing food during lunch or snack
  • We will provide informational signs throughout our hallway bathrooms
  • We will view a demonstration of proper handwashing on our morning announcementsParent Reminder: If your child is ill, please keep them home from school.

Dear Timber Lane Families

Read Across America Week begins this Monday, March 2 and continues through the week. We are sharing some ideas for celebrating school-wide reading here at Timber Lane and at home. You might talk with your child about books read in school; read favorite titles with them and enjoy doing some of the activities.

Attached is the week’s calendar. We will also share titles of some related MyOn books and teachers will be reading their favorites on the morning news and at flipgrid.com/raw2020.

As there is no school for students Tuesday, and it is scheduled as "celebrating cultures and abilities of everyone" you might share with your child a family story or a small something that celebrates their culture, for them to retell/share in school Wednesday.

It is all about creating and celebrating a love of reading!

Happy Reading @ #TIMBER LANE READS!!!

Day 1-Books Showing Others Matter-Wear green and think of ways you can show positivity.

Day 2-Books about Different Cultures and Abilities-Bring something special to you and your culture or share a special family story. (No school Tuesday, March 3rd.)

Day 3-Books about Taking Action-Share ways (in a picture or words) you can make a positive change and add to the banner in the hallway.

Day 4-Books about People Who Have Made a Difference-Draw a picture or write a thank you note to someone who’s made a difference in your life.

Day 5-Books about Families-Join your class, family or friends in a Reading “Camp Out” at school or home

¡Feliz lectura @ #TIMBER LANE LEE!

Culturally Inclusive Activities Throughout Our PE Dance Units!

Kindergarteners have been dancing and doing rhythmic activities in PE during the month of February. They practiced moving to the rhythm of different types of music, learned the Kinderpolka, a partner dance from Germany, and spent time learning to jump rope. We are very impressed with our kindergartners’ skills.

February was our dance and rhythmic activities unit in PE with first grade. We matched movements to different music and sounds, danced individually, as a class and with partners. We also practiced our jumping rope skills. Lastly, we began our new unit of volleying using balloons and beach balls.

Second grade was working on their dancing, rhythmic movements and jumping rope during the month of February. They practiced dances that were teacher-led, partner dances to both folk and pop songs, and moved to a variety of different types of music. Second grade practiced matching the beat of songs with Lummi or rhythm sticks while dancing. They also practiced their jump rope skills with individual jump ropes as well as long ropes used by 3 or more students at a time.

Third grade has demonstrated advanced dancing and rhythm skills during PE the month of February. They performed group dances with their class, practiced dancing and creating music with Lummi or rhythm sticks, and created their own original dances they performed for the class. Third grade has also begun their volleying unit, keeping a ball in their air using a set and bump strike.

In February Fourth grade learned, practiced and performed a variety of dances during our dance unit. They practiced social dances such as the cupid shuffle and the hustle as well as the folk dance the Virginia Reel, a colonial dance that settlers used to dance in Virginia before the American Revolution. They also created an original dance in small groups and performed it for the class. Fourth grade is beginning their volleying unit, playing small-sided games using serve, set and bump volleyball striking.

Fifth grade spent most of February learning various social, folk and international dances. In small groups or individually they created and performed original dances using learned dance moves and self-made dance moves. They also started their volleying unit where we will play small-sided games using serve, set and bump volleyball striking.

Sixth graders stepped out of their comfort zone and participated in a variety of aerobic, social and international dances in PE for most of February. They combined dance moves learned in class with their own dance moves to create unique and original dances. These dances were performed in front of their peers and peers practiced giving positive feedback. They also began their volleyball unit.
