Chantilly HS celebrates Black History Month
Chantilly HS celebrated Black History Month with presentations by dynamic guest speakers including an Autism Advocate from Maryland and a Math Professor from GMU. We also had daily trivia questions along with candy prizes. We closed out the month with a great stepping demonstration from the IMANI step team from Hayfield Secondary School. Thank you to our Black Student Association members for their help.
School Health Services Survey
The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). To determine the quality of these services, a survey has been developed by the FCHD to be shared with all parents or guardians and school staff members who interact with the school health rooms. This may include principals, school counselors, and main office staff members. The survey has been approved for distribution by the FCPS’ Internal Survey Advisory Committee.
Electronic versions of the survey forms may be accessed at:
School Health Services Survey – Parents 2020: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K9VWCJ6 approval # 20217

CHS Student Tony Spinetta with Greenbriar West ES student Ayan
Chantilly High senior Tony Spinetta used the skills learned in his Tech Drawing class to design an assistive device that helps Greenbriar West Elementary fourth grader Ayan play the viola. Tony used CAD (computer aided design) skills to produce the device on a 3-D printer in red, Ayan’s favorite color. Thanks to Tony’s design, Ayan performed in Greenbriar West’s winter concert, using the device to play the viola. Read more about the project online.
Congratulations to Ms. Robyn Lady, Chantilly HS Director of Student Services, who has been recognized as an employee who shows that FCPS Cares.
Robyn is the DSS of Chantilly HS. She continually goes out of her way to ensure her staff have all the support they need to do their jobs effectively. Robyn continues to provide a nurturing environment for her staff which then benefits the students, faculty, and community at Chantilly. I am continually impressed with her commitment and passion to support counselors who are on the front lines.
Recent Student Successes
This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students. I plan to meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

Vinati Konda is patient and kind and genuine. While AP Lang has the potential to feel demoralizing and progress at times moves no faster than the fabled tortoise, Vinati has not once complained, grumbled or even frowned.
