Financial Aid Information for Middle School Parents
College Access Fairfax will again provide multiple sessions for parents to learn about financial aid information for students after high school. Information covered includes cost of attendance at different types of institutions, what financial aid is, how a family can apply for financial aid, a glossary of important terms and information on Virginia529 plans. While middle school students are unable to apply for financial aid at this time, we hope to make families familiar with the terms and procedures in order to ease this process when the student is in high school. Inova Children's Hospital Donations
Extended until February 28th!
Our school is partnering with West Springfield High School to gather donations for patients at Inova Children’s Hospital. We are collecting a variety of items that will provide comfort, security and happiness to patients during their stay at the children’s hospital. Some items include: fleece blankets, playing cards and small games, coloring books and crayons/markers, lip balm, latex-free character band-aids, travel size deodorant/shampoo/conditioner/body wash, kids’ toothpaste and toothbrushes, and many more! All items should be new and should not be gift wrapped. Donations may be placed in the donation bins in the main office. PTA BINGO Night Prize Donations Needed
The PTA BINGO night is coming up on Friday, March 20 at 7:00 pm. The PTA is looking for prize basket donations. If you would be willing to put together and donate a themed prize basket for BINGO night, please email the PTA executive board by emailing Irvingmspta@gmail.com.
Eating Disorder Information
According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA 2013),
Thirty million Americans will struggle with an eating disorder and millions more will battle food and body image issues at some point in their lives. Eating disorders are real, complex, and devastating conditions that can have serious consequences for health, productivity and relationships. They are not a fad, phase, or lifestyle choice. Eating disorders are serious, potentially life-threatening conditions that affect a person’s emotional and physical health.

Library News
SAVE THE DATE! We’re excited to announce that the Irving Library will be holding a Scholastic Book Fair April 14th through the 16th. We will have both school-day hours and evening hours. More details to come.
All 8th grade students have now been to the library to select a book for their 3rd quarter book project. Take some time to ask your student what he / she chose and why. It can also help students to get engaged with their title if the students read the beginning aloud with someone else. Consider this approach if your child struggles to get into and finish the books they choose for English reading projects.

Parking for Pick Up After School
If you are picking up your child after the 2nd after school block (4:35 pm), please do not wait in the bus loop or along the curb in front of the school. We need this space for the late buses when they arrive to pick up students. For kiss-and-ride after 4:30 pm, please use the normal kiss-and-ride lane.

Lost & Found
Irving’s Lost & Found is on display for all students to check during their lunch period. At the end of each month, we wash and donate all clothing, lunch boxes, and water bottles. If your child has lost an item, please advise them to check for it during lunch. We will make announcements the week leading up to donation day to remind students to claim their belongings. If you would like to inquire about an item, please email Emily Geary (emgeary@fcps.edu).
