February 24th Panther Press

Dear Spring Hill Families,

February has been a busy month so far as we've celebrated our 100th day of school, Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, and Presidents’ Day. I hope that your children shared some of the fun activities they participated in to further their learning during these fun holidays!  All are welcome to attend Spring Hill's 2nd Annual Science Fair Event on Thursday 2/27 from 6-7p in the large pod. Come see the exciting Science Projects and find out who the winners are! Bring the whole family to increase your chances to win a free raffle prize and watch a dance & demonstration by an award winning 5th grade girls VEX robotics team!

Parent Survey of Students Grades 3-8 About AAP Level IV (full-time) Services

Fairfax County Public Schools has engaged with external researchers to examine our Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) in grades 3-8, with a focus on Level IV services.  As one of several data collections in the review, researchers are seeking input from all parents of students in grades 3-8 through an online survey.  Individual survey responses will be anonymous, will go directly to the researchers, and will not be viewed by FCPS staff.

Responses will be used by the researchers to craft recommendations for program improvements that will be shared with the FCPS School Board in late March.  Parents are asked to complete the survey only one time, even if they have multiple children in grades 3-8.  The survey is expected to start being sent directly to parent emails by mid-February and will close on February 28, 2020, in order to give researchers time to analyze results for their final report in March of 2020.  There will be a School Board work session on March 24, 2020 with the final report.

Red Cross Blood Drive

Mr. Minutoli Pay It Forward Blood Drive-Adults Only

As many of you know, our beloved P.E. Teacher, Mr. Micky Minutoli, has been battling leukemia for a while. Here is a note from his wife, our sixth grade teacher Mrs. Angela Minutoli:

No one ever thinks that they might need blood one day.  As in Micky’s case, it came on suddenly and since his stem cell transplant last May, he has had over 20 lifesaving transfusions (40+ units of blood). Six units alone were in the past two weeks. You can’t imagine how grateful we are to those who have donated. Know that your donation will  have a tremendous impact on someone’s life.

Red Cross is having a blood drive this Friday at Spring Hill, February 28, 2020. This is our 3rd consecutive year of Red Cross hosting a blood drive at Spring Hill! Please click here to sign up:

Orange Out

We are inviting all students, staff, and community members to wear as much orange as possible on Friday, February 28 to show our love and support to Mr. Minutoli and his whole family.
