Did you know…according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) fentanyl overdose in 2019 are projected to be our worst year yet in Virginia. VDH also reported the Fairfax County 2018 overdose data, there were 89 fatal overdoes in the 15-24 age category, 340 fatal overdoses ages 25-34 and 323 fatal overdoses in the 35-44 age group. The opioid epidemic is still a concern in Fairfax County.
The Great Falls Civic Association and Rotary Club hosting “Operation Drug Prevention” on 2/29, Langley’s Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist, Kelly Rankin is one of the panel members.

As SOL testing approaches, please remember that students may not use personal devices on SOL tests. Students should be sure to restart their FCPSOn laptop at school weekly so that the computer can install key updates. Juniors should bring their FCPSOn laptops to school daily beginning February 24 so that staff may ensure that their laptops are compliant for SOL Testing. Students without a compliant FCPSOn laptop may experience delays and rescheduling of SOL tests.
Langley's Legacy Tree is Growing!
Drop by Langley's lobby, across from the main office, to see the start of the Legacy Tree. While the tree is still a work in progress, it already looks beautiful! Thanks to all of the generous Legacy Tree donors who have made the renovation of the first of Langley's three courtyards possible.
We still have two more courtyards to renovate this spring. If you haven't already done so, consider helping to "grow" the Legacy Tree by donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200) or bird or acorn ($500). You choose the engraved message. The Legacy Tree will be permanent, prominent record of courtyard contributors and a lasting legacy for Langley and your family. Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, friends, coaches, and grads!

Langley Ethics Day Committee is excited to open adult volunteer registration for the annual Senior Ethics Day on March 17, 2020! Imagine approximately 500 seniors spending a day learning and practicing ethical decision-making for life after high school. Click here to find out more or to register for an opportunity to impact high school seniors as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.

Has ringing in the New Year left you feeling fevered? Cure your ills by watching the hilarious, bipartisan lampooning from DC’s own political satire group The Capitol Steps. They will perform live at LHS on Sun, Feb 23. Tickets are $37, and proceeds benefit the All-Night Grad Party (ANGP). Order online, or print this order form and mail it with your payment to the address on the form. Tickets will be held at will-call the night of the performance. Super Transition Saturday
On Saturday, February 22, 2020, Career and Transition Services (CTS), the FCPS Parent Resource Center, and several Fairfax County adult service providers will host “Super Transition Saturday” from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School. This is a free event for parents/guardians and educators of students of all ages with IEPs. Breakout sessions will cover postsecondary education support, the importance of student self-determination beginning in the elementary years, employment support programs, future planning considerations, such as funding needed for services, and CTS support services that are available to students as they progress through the secondary years toward graduation and beyond. A highlight of the day is a parent/guardian and student panel representing a range of challenges and successes. Members of the panel will convey personal experiences and answer parent/guardian and student questions from their perspectives of having been through the transition process. The snow date is March 14, 2020
