 Students in 6th grader have been learning to code using Javascript to create apps to help other students learn or study. They are excited to see their beta test on the iphone!

Next Principal's Cafe will be Thursday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m. Topic: Supporting Each Student for Success
In this Principal’s Café, we will begin with a brief presentation on what our Multi-Tiered Levels of Support (MTSS) looks like at WSES, how we target interventions for students who may be struggling academically or behaviorally, as well as discuss the special education identification and 504 process and resources.
The remainder of the evening, we plan to provide you time for a Q&A with a panel including:
- WSES special education parents
- Special education teachers Caroline Bustos and Sarah Moore
- Classroom teachers Katrina Glista, Regina Uribe and Jenn Walrarth
- Math Resource teacher, James Koontz
- Reading Teacher, Connie Carney
- School administrators, Kelly Sheers and Satonya Dews
We will address questions from participants including topics such as supporting student's with Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, Interventions etc.

 Did you know that we are having a talent show?! The WSES SCA is hosting a fun event called “Mustangs Got Talent!” on March 20, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
In order to participate, students must complete the permission slip found in the Thursday folder.
SCA Pennies for Patients Spirit Week Pennies for Patients is calling all heroes to join our squad.
Be on the lookout for more information coming next week that will allow your child to participate in this rewarding event that emphasizes the importance of social and emotional learning and gaining the experience of helping both children and adults in their fight against blood cancer. Our SCA sponsored Pennies for Patients Spirit Week February 24-February 28th (is a great way to get involved and join the fight against cancer. You can also check out our school website to donate online at https://events.lls.org/pages/nca/West-Springfield-Elementary-School-2020. We look forward to our school-wide kick-off.

Read Across America “The Read Across America Challenge is back until Monday March 9th. We are challenging each mustang to read at least 30 minutes a night. For every 15 minutes a student reads they get to color in a state in their packet and those students who read enough to color in the entire United States map will be entered the raffle for a prize. There will be 7 grand prizes one for each grade level. The Magnet Program The Magnet Program registration window will be open from March 3, 2020 through March 30, 2020. No late applications will be accepted.
Families wanting to apply for the Magnet Lottery must have a SIS account. If a student is not currently enrolled in FCPS, registration at the base school for the upcoming school year will be required. A separate application must be completed for each sibling applying.
Legacies also must apply to be eligible. Acceptances into one of the magnet programs is not transferable into another program or school.
As stated in Notice 5922, a one-time pupil placement application fee applies for students accessing special programs outside of their base school for World Language Immersion or Magnet School Programs. Lice To help us best communicate when a classroom is experiencing an outbreak with lice, please be sure to notify your child’s teacher and our school nurse, Gilda Rodriguez, if your child is being treated for lice.
Our band, strings and choir students are well underway in their preparation for their Spring concert performances. The fine arts program is pleased to announce that for the first time, our program will be divided into 3 separate concerts throughout the Spring! We are proud of our students hard work and dedication to the program and we look forward to showcasing their progress.
