PTA Meeting

Thursday, February 27, 2020

6:30PM - RCMS Library

Join us for the February PTA Meeting!  We are looking forward to our special guest speaker this month:

Samskara Yoga & Healing will be doing a presentation after our meeting to discuss and demonstrate ways to bring about mindful breath and movement. This can aid our students in lowering their stress, increasing focus, and improving self-regulation both at home and in the classroom. We hope you can join us for both the meeting and the presentation.

SOL Writing Tests

All 8th grade students will be taking the Writing SOL in March.  The Writing SOL consists of two parts and will be administered over a two day period:

Tuesday, March 10: Multiple Choice

Wednesday, March 11: Writing Prompt

The tests will begin each day at 7:30AM.  Please be sure your child arrives to school on time.  Also please avoid any appointments during the morning hours, as students cannot be dismissed from a testing room once the test has begun.  We expect most of the students will complete these tests by 10:30AM each day.

You can help your child do their best by ensuring they get a good night's rest and have a healthy breakfast each day!

Carson Staff Members to Lead Expeditions

Two of our Carson staff members are planning to lead students on expeditions in 2021.  Both of these trips are open to students who are in grades 6-8 for the current 2019-2020 school year.  Read on for more details!

Kristden Oliver, Majestics Science 7 Teacher, will be leading a group of students to Peru.  From Lima to Machu Picchu, your child will be immersed in the land and culture of Peru. They will connect with local communities in the Sacred Valley and learn how they preserve history, art and their heritage including a ceramic making workshop from a local expert. There, they focus on the archaeological remains of the Inca Empire and their lasting cultural influences. While exploring the Andes, they will also spend two days working in a local community on projects that support economic sustainability, local agriculture and access to education. The trip will take place March (spring break) 2021. Click the link to RSVP to the Peru parent interest meeting:   http://bit.ly/2UlA3il

Sofi Cahoon, RCMS Instructional Assistant, will be leading a group of students to South Africa. While this country’s spotted and striped inhabitants are memorable, it’s the social, political, and cultural lessons of South Africa that are sure to leave a lasting impression. Standing in Nelson Mandela’s former home adds powerful context to his fight for democracy and reconciliation, while Cape Town is a favorite destination for many, thanks to its cosmopolitan atmosphere and stunning scenery. As you explore South Africa’s cultural diversity, remarkable wildlife, and natural landmarks, you’ll begin to understand the story of an entire continent.  Highlights include a safari through Kruger National Park, a cable car ride to Table Mountain, an excursion to a penguin colony and a visit to Robben Island to see Nelson Mandela’s cell. This trip will take place in July of 2021.  Click the link to RSVP to the South Africa parent interest meeting   http://bit.ly/2RYYdgN

Fundraising Night

at Franklin Farm Chipotle

February 25 - 4:00-8:00PM

Make dining easy by joining us for a fundraiser at the Franklin Farm Chipotle on Tuesday, February 25, from 4:00-8:00PM to support the RCMS PTA.

Come in after kids' afternoon activities or pick up dinner on your way home––whatever the reason, your choice to purchase at Chipotle that evening will benefit the PTA and our programs.

Please print and bring in this flyer, show it on your smartphone, or tell the cashier that you are supporting the RCMS PTA. This will ensure that if we meet the restaurant's sales goal, 33% of the proceeds will be donated to the RCMS PTA.

We hope you to see you there!
