Did you know that our front atrium garden and Japanese Maple Tree are memorials? The Japanese Maple Tree is dedicated to victims of September 11th and a West Springfield parent, lieutenant Jerry Don Dickerson, Jr., who died at the Pentagon. The garden itself is dedicated to a former teacher, B.J. Bridewell who died in an accident. Please be mindful during student arrival and dismissal to ensure the memorial is respected and students are not climbing on or through the garden park. Thank you.
We are excited to announce our location of this year's annual school-wide field trip to Burke Lake Park! Field trip permission form, t-shirt order form and additional information was sent home this week in the Thursday folder. We look forward to this opportunity to build community together. Permission and t-shirt order forms are due Friday, February 21

FCPS Meet the Author West Springfield Elementary School is proud to have been selected to participate in the FCPS Meet the Author series partnering with renowned author W. Bruce Cameron. The students in 5th and 6th grade began the year choosing one of Mr. Cameron’s books including A Dog’s Purpose, Ellie’s Story or Bailey’s Story. The students had the opportunity to read his books and work alone or with partners on a variety of projects to examine their chosen story. These projects were presented and recorded for the FCPS Meet the Author Series January 23rd. This was the first part of the program with a Skype session with Mr. Cameron taking place on February 11th which will also be recorded. These recording will then be part of the ½ hour broadcast for the FCPS series on channel 21 and also uploaded to YouTube for public viewing. It has been an amazing experience for our students to be able to partner with Mr. Cameron and be part of this program.
