Crossfield Gives Back

Crossfield Gives Back, February 14

On Friday, February 14th, we will be participating in “Crossfield Gives Back"— a day of giving where all students will prepare, sort and pack over 500 weekend food packs of snacks and meals for food insecure students across Fairfax County. These packs will be distributed by Food for Others.
Over the next few weeks, our 6th graders will be sharing information on food insecurity through poster campaigns and on the WCES morning news. Teachers will be discussing food insecurity with their classes at morning meetings. Please ask your students about those discussions and what their class is doing to give back.

We are asking for the help of our Crossfield Community in providing the foods for these packs (oatmeal, granola bars, etc). You can sign up to donate food and to help our students with their day of giving here: https://tinyurl.com/giveback20

Please share this link for food donations far and wide (neighborhoods, churches, local friends and family). This is an ambitious effort, but we know we can do it. Let’s show the love, Crossfield! Together, we can help fellow students in our community.

Hand washing

"Stay Healthy. Wash Your Hands!"

Fairfax County School Health Promotion

Germs are everywhere! Washing your hands is the best way to stop germs from spreading. When kids come in contact with germs, they can become sick just by touching their eyes, nose, or mouth. Once they are ill, it is usually just a matter of time before the rest of the family gets sick. When your family is healthy, you don’t need to worry about missing school, work, or other activities.

For effective handwashing, follow these simple steps: wet, lather, scrub for 20 seconds, rinse, dry. It takes time for children to build handwashing skills. Your child may need reminders when to wash their hands, like after using the restroom, playing outside, coughing, sneezing, or before eating. When taught early, handwashing can become a lifelong healthy habit. Children learn by modeling behaviors of adults. When you make handwashing part of your routine, you set an example for your children to follow.
