Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

This week is Counselor Appreciation Week!  Thank you to our amazing counselor Anoma Hapangama for supporting all of our Stenwood Stingers!  We are so thankful to have you at Stenwood!

In your child’s backpack today is their 2nd quarter Progress Report.  Now that we are halfway through the year it is a good time to reflect and set goals with your child.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please reach out to his/her teacher.  Though there are not scheduled conferences, teachers are always happy to meet with you as the need arises.  If there is anything Dr. Mitchell or I can do to support your child, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Believe it or not, it is time to start Kindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year.  We will be holding our Kindergarten Orientation on March 3rd from 9:00 - 10:00am.  Mrs. Hunt is already accepting registrations, more information below.  If you have neighbors that have a preschooler that should be registering, please make sure to pass along the information to them.

Hope to see you all at our newest PTA event this Saturday- the Stinger Sweetheart Dance!

Sincerely,
Erica Riley, Principal
Meredith Mitchell, Assistant Principal

PTA’s Stinger Sweethearts Dance

Join us Sat, Feb 8th from 2:30 - 4:00pm in the Gym for the Stingers Sweethearts Dance.

Parents, get your dancing shoes on because this one is for you too! The dance will be similar to a Father-Daughter/Mother-Son type dance. Each Stinger is asked to invite a special adult in their life to be their guest.

Ticket sales opened last week and must be purchased online in advance. Limited number of tickets are available, so get yours today!

Make it a full afternoon - Take your Stinger Sweetheart out for lunch or dinner at Blackfinn on the day of the Dance and 10% of your bill will go to the PTA. All are invited, even if you cannot attend the Dance!

Get ready for the Kids Heart Challenge!

Kids Heart Challenge - Join the Heart Heroes

Parents, it’s time for your child to show heart!

The Kids Heart Challenge is your child’s chance to be a Heart Hero by learning about heart health, spreading the word, and raising funds to help other children.

Download the free mobile app or visit http://www2.heart.org/goto/stenwoodes to register and have your child take one of three healthy challenges. Then, ask friends and family for donations, helping your child earn thank-you gifts and PE equipment for our school!

We will be kicking off the Kids Heart Challenge at Stenwood on February 13th, and your child can get the special heart squishy (pictured left) if he or she raises $150 on the website or app by that morning.

Marshall Pyramid - Digital Citizenship

On March 18 from 6:15PM - 8:15 PM, Kilmer Middle School will host a Digital Citizenship night for the Marshall Pyramid community. Presentations will cover a variety of topics for all school age ranges; from cyber security, social media, how students access technology in schools, and how families can support good digital balance at home. We encourage all Stenwood families to attend,  to learn how we can work together to support our students in a growing digital world.  We look forward to seeing you!

More information to follow next week.

Thank you for supporting students’ physical and emotional well-being and helping collect donations for the American Heart Association.  We appreciate all your support!

Positivity Project ~ Forgiveness

P2 - Forgiveness

This week we are focusing on Forgiveness. You forgive those who have done wrong. You accept that people make mistakes.

“Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.”

                                                    ~Marianne Williamson

Questions you might enjoy talking about:

  • Why is forgiveness so hard to give sometimes?
  • Why is there “no peace” without forgiveness?
  • What happens to YOU when you forgive someone who has done you wrong?
