A Message from Dr. Smith

Congratulations to our Girls Dive Team who advanced to Dive Finals later this month!  The remainder of Swim Regionals, Wrestling Regionals, and Track and Field Regionals are in the coming days.  We look forward to seeing our community come out and support all of these student athletes!

Information for ALL

No Bus Passes for February
FCPS Transportation Department will be conducting a student count for all our LBSS buses during the month of February in order to assess our transportation needs. To obtain accurate information, they have issued a temporary “No Bus Pass” policy for Lake Braddock during the month of February. Only students assigned to specific buses will be allowed to ride on that bus. No Bus Passes will be issued to students not assigned to buses during the month of February 2020. Please plan your transportation arrangements accordingly.

Sam Lucania Student Program
We are pleased to welcome Sam Lucania to Lake Braddock in February!  Sam will be here to speak with students about his personal experience dealing with substance abuse and mental health struggles.  Sam is an engaging speaker and has given multiple presentations in the area, that include leading a workshop at the FCPS Parent Resource Center in October and a Ted Talk this past April.  Sam is here to speak directly to students about how you can seek support and support one another with their own struggles.  Some topics might be hard to hear so we will be providing time for students to process their thoughts after the presentation..

Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, we wanted to inform you about it in advance. We encourage you to ask your student about the presentation and discuss it together. If for any reason, you would prefer that your child not attend this presentation, please email your school counselor prior to Friday, February 7th. Should you have further questions, please feel free to contact your child’s school counselor.

A parent program will also be taking place on Wednesday, February 12th at 7PM in the Little Theatre.  More detailed information is available here.

All parents, students, teachers, and administrators are invited to participate in the annual SpeakUp national survey on digital technology. We can also see how FCPS compares to other school districts via the national results of this survey. Please consider taking this survey by visiting https://speakup.tomorrow.org/ and selecting “Take Survey.” The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and will be available until February 21. For more information about the survey, please visit: https://tomorrow.org/Speakup/. LBSS In the News

BIA

We're so proud and happy that the year-long Middle School Bruins In Action Capstone is well underway again this school year! Not long ago, our community partner for the Capstone, The Community Foundation For Northern Virginia, sent the school a letter acknowledging the positive impact the Capstone has had on our Northern Virginia Community. We're extremely proud of the valuable difference that our LB 8th graders are making in the lives of so many people in Northern Virginia.   They understand the importance of giving here because we’re living here. Please take a moment to read a portion of the letter below:

"... Through your support, our friends at Mobile Hope are able to better support the lodging needs of homeless youth in Loudoun County. Through your support, our partners at Girls on the Run are increasing access to their enriching programs in Fairfax County. And through your support, we’re privileged to work alongside countless more organizations as they seek to positively benefit the lives of all our neighbors.

Because of the time, and also the resources, you continually dedicate to learning about impactful and intelligent philanthropy, you’re paving the way to a better, innovative Northern Virginia that works for everyone. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!"
