News from Fairhill

Administrator Avenue

Dear Fairhill Families,

It is hard to believe we are already through half of the school year. Our teachers and students continue to work extremely hard, and we are very proud to be at Fairhill Elementary School. We look forward to a great second half of the school year.  We are so glad Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and Spring is on its way. This week has already showed us that Spring will be beautiful, and we know the third quarter of school is always just that way.

The progress reports coming home today are one opportunity to engage in a conversation with your child about schoolwork and effort.  You might look for celebrations, areas of growth, or discuss something they learned in the teacher comment section.  Your support for the learning happening at Fairhill is greatly appreciated.

Looking into the month of February and beyond, we are so excited at all the great events coming up. In a few short weeks we will have our Science and Innovation Night (February 18th). We are still in need of volunteers to help. If you are interested and able, please sign up here. We are also beginning to plan for our annual Family Heritage Night. Please join us from 6-8 pm on March 6th and bring a favorite family dish to share. This year, students have the opportunity to create a display board of the country they identify their heritage with (USA included) or walk in the Fashion Show. More information about Family Heritage Night is below in the Fairhill Forum. For our April event, we are excited to announce a revamped Staff Basketball game to be played at Falls Church HS on the evening of April 17th. Be on the lookout for more information for these awesome upcoming events.

We continue to have a great number of tardy students. As a reminder, the first bell rings at 9:10 and students need to be in their classrooms by the second bell which is at 9:20. Students that arrive after that time are considered tardy and parents must walk tardy students into the office. Please do not drop off your child and have them walk in alone if they arrive after 9:20. When your child is late, they miss having a smooth start to their day and the community building that happens at the beginning of the day. Please help your child have the best day possible by getting them to school on time. Buses are always considered on time so if that is an option, have your child ride the bus.

We look forward to seeing everyone next Thursday, February 13th for our monthly PTA meeting.

As always, we are a team! Have a question or a concern? Email us or call using the contact info below!

Sincerely,

Mr. Stanley and Mrs. Korb

Have you setup a Dreambox Parent Account yet? This is a great way to stay up-to-date with your child’s progress in Dreambox Learning. Dreambox Learning is a digital math program that allows students to access rigorous, standards based math curriculum that connects to what they are learning in the classroom. Dreambox promotes active learning and critical thinking and adapts to each student based on their input. A Parent Account allows you to view their progress, shares suggestions about how to support your child, and gives you insights into their math world.

Family Heritage Night... Save the Date

Please join us on March 6th for a great night of fun, sharing and learning!

Join us Friday, March 6th from 6:00-8:00 for this beloved Fairhill tradition. Come celebrate the diversity of our Fairhill community by bringing a favorite family dish, wearing traditional clothing, and learning about the heritage of others.

We ask that each family attending bring a “potluck” sized dish to share. If you would like to create a display board teaching others about the country you identify with or participate in the Fashion Show, please sign and return the permission slip found here.

Career Fair...Save the Date

Save the date for our second annual Career Fair on March 30th! The purpose of Career Day is to expose students to a variety of careers in order to jumpstart their thinking about the future. By preparing early, students will be more likely to be college and career ready after high school graduation. Students in grades 2-6 will participate in Career Day.

However, we can’t do it without you! Please be thinking about how you can support Career Day! More information on this flyer or see today's Tuesday Folder.
