Parking for Pick Up After School

If you are picking up your child after the 2nd after school block (4:35 pm), please do not wait in the bus loop or along the curb in front of the school.  We need this space for the late buses when they arrive to pick up students.  For kiss-and-ride after 4:30 pm, please use the normal kiss-and-ride lane.

Please contact the After School Program Specialist, Emily Geary (emgeary@fcps.edu) with questions about the after school program.

West Springfield Rotary Club’s Annual “4-Way Test” Essay Contest: Deadline February 7th!

Calling all students!  Every year our local Rotary Club chapter sponsors an essay contest centered around the “4-Way Test”. Students are asked to write an essay about the “4-Way Test” and incorporate creativity, originality, and quality or writing into their piece. For contest overview, rules, and an entry sheet, students should see Ms. Geary during lunch.  All entries are due no later than Friday, February 7th. Early entries are encouraged!  Three winners are selected from Irving to be recognized at the local chapter’s breakfast in their honor, and the 1st place winner moves forward to a District competition with a grand prize of $750!

Inova Children’s Hospital Donation Drive sponsored by Irving SCA and West Springfield SGA

From Monday, February 3rd to Friday, February 7th, our school is partnering with West Springfield High School to gather donations for patients at Inova Children’s Hospital.  We are collecting a variety of items that will provide comfort, security and happiness to patients during their stay at the children’s hospital.  Some items include:  fleece blankets, playing cards and small games, coloring books and crayons/markers, lip balm, latex-free character band-aids, travel size deodorant/shampoo/conditioner/body wash, kids’ toothpaste and toothbrushes, and many more!  All items should be new and should not be gift wrapped.  Donations may be placed in the donation bins in the main office.  For a full list of items, please visit this link:  INOVA Children's Hospital Patient Wishlist

Thank you in advance for your contributions!  For questions, please contact Emily Geary (emgeary@fcps.edu)

SCA School Dance

Our next school dance will be after school on Thursday, February 13th, from 2:25 PM to 4:30 PM.  During the dance, students may enjoy dancing in the 7th grade gym or play basketball in the 8th grade gym.  A snack of pizza, chips and a drink will be served to all students who attend the dance.  The theme for this dance is Valentine’s Day, so students are encouraged to wear red, pink, and white!  On the day of the dance, students may ride late buses home, or be picked up by a parent.

Tickets to the dance cost $5 and will be sold in the cafeteria during all lunches on the following days:  Wed. 2/5, Thurs. 2/6, Fri. 2/7, Mon. 2/10, Tues. 2/11.  Please note that tickets will not be sold the day before the dance (2/12) or the day of the dance (2/13).  On the day of the dance, students will receive a wristband which will serve as their ticket to the dance.

Please note that on the date of the dance, there will be NO other activities.  Students may only stay after school on the day of the dance if they have purchased a ticket.

8th graders and parents, please direct questions to Dave Dachille (dmdachille@fcps.edu)

7th graders and parents, please direct questions to Emily Geary (emgeary@fcps.edu)

Lost & Found

Irving’s Lost & Found is on display for all students to check during their lunch period.  At the end of each month, we wash and donate all clothing, lunch boxes, and water bottles.  If your child has lost an item, please advise them to check for it during lunch.  We will make announcements the week leading up to donation day to remind students to claim their belongings.  If you would like to inquire about an item, please email Emily Geary (emgeary@fcps.edu).
