From the Principal's Desk
Dear Members of the Chantilly Community:
Here's the news around Chantilly HS!
Scott
 Chantilly students attending HBCU Fair
Twenty four Chantilly Juniors and Seniors attended the Historically Black Colleges and Universities fair at Edison High School last Thursday. Thirty one Colleges were in attendance, with 15 giving on-site admissions decisions to seniors that day. Three Chantilly Seniors were made offers of admissions. Congratulations!
College fairs are great opportunities to find information on post-secondary institutions, what they are expecting of the incoming class and to meet admissions representatives. Watch for other opportunities that become available at CHS!
.
Chantilly HS showed some San Francisco 49er's spirit this week to honor Justin Skule, swing tackle for the team, playing this weekend at the Super Bowl. Proud mom, Ms. Christy Skule, is our SubSchool 2 Administrative Assistant. She will be there this weekend with her family cheering on her son and the team! Go 49ers!

 AFJROTC Dining Out
The Chantilly Academy Air Force Junior ROTC Corps of Cadets recently hosted a Military Dining Out. The Military Dining Out is a time-honored tradition that celebrates cadet achievements individually and collectively in a formal setting. The Dining Out is a formal dinner well grounded in social etiquette (proper eating and behaviors). There were 520 people in attendance and our guest speaker was Chief Master of the Air Force Kaleth Wright, the highest ranking enlisted member of the United States Air Force.

Recent Student Successes
This is the next installment for the school year of what has become a weekly segment aimed at recognizing students for demonstrating recent improvement or achievement in academics, behavior or citizenship. At the end of each recognition, you will see the name of the nominating teacher or staff member. On a rotating basis, departments will nominate students. I plan to meet with recognized students each week to congratulate them in person.

Abigail Davis is showing tremendous dedication and focus. Her writing is more concise and her assessment scores are some of the highest in the class. Great Job Abigail! Mr. John Downes
- Since winter break Saniah Harris has been working very hard. She has stayed after school to study for tests with me and is participating in class and demonstrating goal-directed attributes. Ms. Mary Catherine Keating
- This is the second time that I have had the pleasure of being Samuel Huxsoll's teacher. I have witnessed him mature into a more confident young man. Sam has become more organized and determined which has allowed his academic abilities to shine through. Keep up the great work Sam, I am so proud of you! Ms. Michele Gates

Grace Kim gives her very best in everything she does and never "cuts corners." Her genuine empathy for others shines through every day. The interview project she completed with her grandmother was amazing, made all the more so because Grace conducted the interview in Korean to make her grandmother feel more comfortable, even though Grace is not fluent in the language. Grace could have made things easy on herself by interviewing an English speaker. Instead, she honored her grandmother and made a family connection that she will treasure forever. Ms. Angie Rollet
- I would like to recognize Michael McDonald for showing amazing improvement and doing excellent work on his Unit Notebook! Ms. Toni Bowman
-
Corey Queen has shown ownership of his learning and trying to improve. Most recently, he stayed after school to study with the teacher for the geography test and scored a 91%. Mr. Scott Smith
