WTW PTSO WeMail - January 28th

It takes a village…

And the village needs you.  The PTSO is looking for a volunteer (or two!) to participate in the PTSO Board nominating committee to identify candidates to fill vacancies on next year's 2020-21 PTSO Board and standing committees. We have a volunteer to head the nominating committee, so we’re just looking for a few additional volunteers to help out.  Interested or have more questions? Please email Melissa French at wptsopres@gmail.com.

District Band

Woodson will be hosting the District Band preparation and concert this weekend.   27 Woodson students will be joined by 315 others in our district.  These musicians were selected from 800 that auditioned at Robinson earlier this month.   District Band showcases the talents of these students as they come together for two days, performing a concert at the end of the second day.

The final performance is open to all and will take place in the Woodson Auditorium on Saturday, February 1st at 2 p.m.  This impressive concert is free and open to the public.

Winter Sports Highlights

Woodson Rifle Team is coming off another successful week.  They traveled to Maryland for a paper match against Landon School.  Senior, Shawn Chen led the team to a victory shooting a 287.  Woodson sent six athletes to this match in Maryland and they swept the top six places. Shawn Chen, Joseph Stefanski, Justin Mangis, Victoria Cross, Joe Hall, and Kyle Barron came out strong and represented their team and Woodson well.  All of the athletes shot in the upper 90s in prone, giving up minimum points in that position.  The Woodson Rifle's Varsity team had a solid win, shooting a combined score of 1125 to Landon's 1029.  This coming week finds them back at their home range competing against West Springfield on Tuesday and Thursday going up against Lake Braddock

WTW Varsity Girls Basketball (14-3, 4-1 Patriot District) opened its week with a tough overtime loss to Robinson at home, 51-50.  Eunice Yoon led the Cavs with 14.  Abby Pesansky added 10 and 11 rebounds. Maggie McGuire scored 9, Sarah Wilson 8, Anna Wiggins 6, and Allie Maahs 3.  In a first-place showdown at Fairfax, the Cavs reclaimed the top spot in the District by coming from 5 points down in the last two minutes to storm past the Fairfax Rebels, 41-39.  Maggie McGuire was unstoppable in the 4th quarter and led the Cavs with 13.  Anna Wiggins hit a big 3 in the last minute to tie the game at 38 and finished with 8.  Eunice Yoon added 9, Abby Pesansky and Kate Torgersen 4, Sarah Wilson 2, and Levi Weinberger 1.

Next week the Cavs are away Tuesday against South County and home Friday 1/31 for Senior Night against Lake Braddock when 4-year Varsity seniors Maggie McGuire, Amelia Noca, Abby Pesansky and Sarah Wilson and manager Emily Allen will be honored before tip off.  Come celebrate our seniors and their contributions to our winning Girls Basketball program!

WTW  Boys Varsity Basketball went 0-2 this week with an overtime loss at Robinson (55-62) and a home loss against Fairfax (44-52).  The Cavs played solid team defense against a very good Fairfax team holding them below their season scoring average.  Individually, Joe Pesansky and Andre Pacheco played well throughout the week.  Joe had 22 points/8 rebounds against Robinson followed by 21 points/6 rebounds against Fairfax while Andre had 12 points and 7 points respectively.  Moe Raff also contributed throughout the week averaging 6 points and 7 rebounds.  The Cavs will be on the road against South County on 1/28 and at Lake Braddock on 1/31.
