How To Help Your Child Build a Working Vocabulary

Children who read more frequently acquire a stronger vocabulary. Having a strong vocabulary assists children with not only communicating effectively but also supports their preparation for standardized tests. In addition, there is a deep connection between vocabulary and comprehension.   There are numerous ways parents can enhance vocabulary instruction and introduce new, exciting words to their children. To learn more about how to support your child’s vocabulary at home and on state tests, please the links below.

National School Counseling Week

NSCW

National School Counseling Week 2020 will be celebrated from February 3-7, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems.  School counselors have a tremendous impact in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.  Oak Hill would like to thank our counselors, Mrs. Kimberly Gallagher and Mrs. Christy Ryder, for all of their hard work and dedication.

If you would like to send Mrs. Gallagher or Mrs. Ryder a note through the FCPS Cares recognition program, please click here.

Principal Coffee

Have you heard of Growth Mindset?  Come learn what Growth Mindset is, how we use it in the classroom, and how you can use it with your kids at home.  Three Oak Hill teachers will present information at our next Principal Coffee on February 5th from 8:30-9:30am in the Oak Hill Library.  Parents will have the opportunity to visit classrooms to see Growth Mindset in action.

If you are interested in joining us, please RSVP here by Monday, February 3rd.  We will be capping this coffee at 25 participants in an effort to keep groups small as we are visiting classrooms.  If you have any specific questions regarding this coffee, please contact Katherine Andersen at keandersen@fcps.edu.
