Message from the Principal

Langley HS

Dear Langley High School families,

As we are approaching the conclusion of the Rise Against Hunger fundraising campaign, I would like to thank those of you who have contributed. If you have yet to make a donation, it’s not too late. As you are aware, this is a pyramid wide fundraiser. All proceeds go toward the purchase of food packs for the needy.

Contributions may be submitted until midnight on Friday, January 24, 2020. Please follow the directions listed below to make a donation. Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy cause.

Last year’s Rise Against Hunger event was a huge success and provided a wonderful service learning opportunity for children and adults of all ages.  Families in the Langley Pyramid are joining together to help children in need.  In partnership with Rise Against Hunger, the elementary, middle and high schools in the Pyramid are coming together on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Colvin Run Elementary School to prepare 100,000 meals for schools and orphanages around the world.

Highlights of Rise Against Hunger’s Mission

  • Nourish Lives- ensure the meals distributed by those partners are used as a tool to change lives by promoting education, improving students’ health and nutrition, addressing gender inequalities, stimulating economic growth and fighting child labor.
  • Respond to Emergencies- food distribution in response crises–both natural and man-made.
  • Empower Communities- bolster agricultural production and incomes through programs promoting improved agricultural methods, business skills, and market access

A Langley High School family who attended the event shared:

"The statistics are alarming. It helps my children to realize just how lucky they are. It made them feel good that at their age, they too, can make an impact and difference in other people's lives.”

Help raise money for the event: Donations end January 24th

We can only package the number of meals we purchase, so please donate to help us reach our 100,000 meals goal by January 24th. Each meal costs only 34 cents to make.  For just $5, you can donate nearly 15 meals; $15 will make nearly 50 meals and $50 will make nearly 150 meals.  Make your tax-deductible donation today at http://events.stophungernow.org/LangleyPyramid2020. In order to reach our goal of 100,000 meals, the Langley Pyramid needs to raise $34,000.  If your company makes matching contributions, please consider having them join you in making a tax-deductible donation today at: http://events.stophungernow.org/LangleyPyramid2020 and help us Rise Against Hunger

Each student is encouraged to donate loose change or money that they earn and wish to donate to Rise Against Hunger.  Students will have the opportunity to bring in any money they would like to donate in January 2020.  Langley High School parents and families are also encouraged to donate to help us reach our Langley pyramid goal.  Our goal will be reached if every child donated $5.00.

Volunteer for the event:

Volunteers must register for the event and pick a time slot in which to volunteer.  Enter "Quantity" as the number of volunteers attending.  If for any reason you need to cancel, please cancel through the Sign-up Genius to make those slots available to other Langley High School families.  Being a popular Langley pyramid event, please sign up as volunteer slots will fill up quickly.  Children ages 4-12 must be accompanied by an adult.  On the day of the event, volunteers package meals based on the amount of money raised, so it is recommended that if you wish to volunteer for the event, please make a monetary donation.

Please email LangleySHN@gmail.com if you have any questions.

This is a great event for the whole family! Don't miss out.
