Lanier MS Updates - January 24, 2020

From the Principal's Desk

Good afternoon, Lanier Families,

As we are getting back into the full swing of school, the testing season will soon be upon us. Next week, our ESOL students will demonstrate how much their English language skills have improved over the past years with their state WIDA tests. In March, our entire 8th grade will take the Writing SOL. Thank you for your support in helping your students come to school rested and prepared for testing days.

This past Wednesdays, the halls of Lanier were full of smiles and excitement as our rising 7th and 8th graders came to Curriculum Night. We are so proud of our current students in how they presented about their Lanier experiences and provided information on their classes to the rising students.

In closing, please join me in congratulating Charlie Burts as the Fairfax Pyramid Secondary Teacher of the Year. His name will now be forwarded to FCPS Region 5. Enjoy your 4-day weekend!

Sincerely,

Tammy Hanna

Germs are everywhere!  They get onto your hands and items you touch as you go throughout your day.  People frequently touch their eyes, nose and mouth without realizing it after coming into contact with contaminated objects like cell phones, doorknobs, laptops, and tabletops.  Your first line of defense against harmful germs is handwashing which is easy, cheap, and an effective way to prevent the spread of germs and keep you healthy.

Reminders

Student Services

Course Selection 20-21

8th graders are already in the process of selecting classes for 9th grade. If your student has not turned in their Blue Course Selection sheet, please make sure it is turned in to science teachers as soon as possible. In February, students will enter their course selections in SIS StudentVue, you will also be able to see courses in SIS ParentVue.

7th graders will receive course selection materials next week and Blue Course Selection sheets are due back to science teachers no later than February 10th.

Counselors will sit will all students individually to go over course options and teacher recommendations. When possible, questions about course selection should be directed to counselors through students. All students can learn more about available courses by accessing the Course Catalog on our Course Selection section of the Lanier Website or on the FHS website.

Report Cards and Second Semester Classes

Second Semester classes will be visible in SIS no later than Wednesday morning. Year-long classes are not likely to change, but semester electives and PE classes are likely to change. If students have a change in their 1st period class, they should report directly to their new 1st period. If they are not able to see their new 1st period class, they should go to their current 1st period teacher to find out their new 1st period class.

SIS Student and Parent Vue will be down while teachers are finalizing second Quarter Grades. Report Cards will be handed out to students Friday January 31 and grades will be visible in SIS Saturday, February 1st.
