Rise Against Hunger Update

The students have been doing a great job with bringing in all of their donations to support our Rise Against Hunger campaign. I also want to thank all of you for supporting them with the donations, our “Learn to Earn” initiative and for all of your online donations. Across the school, we are having a grade-level competition to see who gets the highest level of participation across their grade-level. Here are the current standings:

K- 27%, 1st – 50%, 2nd – 36%, 3rd – 31%, 4th – 32%, 5th – 50%, 6th – 20%

As you can see it’s a tight right between a couple of grade-levels but that doesn’t mean that other grade-levels can’t catch up. Please continue to remind your students to earn those donations and bring them in with them each day so that we can do our part to rise up against world hunger!

Remember, we can only package the number of meals we purchase, so please donate to help us reach our pyramid goal of 100,000 meals by January 24th. Each meal costs only 34 cents to make.  For $5, you can donate nearly 15 meals; $15 will make nearly 50 meals and $50 will make nearly 150 meals.  Make your tax-deductible donation today at http://events.stophungernow.org/LangleyPyramid2020. In order to reach our goal of 100,000 meals, the Langley Pyramid needs to raise $34,000.  If your company makes matching contributions, please consider having them join you in making a tax-deductible donation today at: http://events.stophungernow.org/LangleyPyramid2020 and help us Rise Against Hunger

Rise Against Hunger Event-Save the Date (All Grades)

Event Date: Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Colvin Run Elementary School

Volunteer Processing

As a reminder, our Volunteer Screening day will be coming up in two weeks on January 31st. The HR department within in FCPS will be sending out a mobile lab to process all of our volunteers. Please see the following information in regards to the date, time and location of the mobile lab:

Date: Friday, January 31, 2020

Time: 9:30am – 10:30am

Location: Library

As mentioned in previous communications, all volunteers who do not make it to the school for processing, still need to be processed in order to be a volunteer. Please see the following information:

What happens for volunteers who do not make it to the mobile unit screening process or start volunteering on a consistent basis later in the school year: Volunteers who miss the mobile unit or start volunteering at a later date will still need to come in to the school and fill out a Volunteer or Mentor Application Form. That form along with a form that the school fills out will then be sent over to HR. HR will then contact you about when they need you to come in to be processed. So, the volunteer will still need to fill out a form and be processed by HR before their volunteering can start but the clearing process will be completed on-site at the FCPS HR office.
