Did you know…from 1995 to 1997 Kaiser Permanente conducted a study by collected data on adverse childhood experience (ACE Study).  Over 17,000 Health Maintenance Organization members from Southern California receiving physical exams completed confidential surveys regarding their childhood experiences and current health status and behaviors.  The CDC and Kaiser joined forces and continue to use outcomes of the ACE Study to educate doctors, communities, and mental health provider on the long term effects of negative childhood experiences.

Here is more information on the ACE Study - https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/childabuseandneglect/acestudy/index.html

*The next Saxon Service is Wednesday, January 29th during Saxon Time.   Fifteen different activities will be available to students to support various service organizations.  Student can make sandwiches, write notes of thanks and support, iron, braid, knit, fold origami, sort crayons, make blankets and many other activities—there is something for every interest.

Why should students participate in Saxon Service?  Hands on activities and service to others reduces stress. Repetitive actions requiring little mental challenge can be meditative (Origami, coloring, ironing, braiding, knitting, sorting).  Service to others encourages thinking beyond yourself and caring for others. Saxon Service creates sense of community and fosters relationships outside “usual” friend groups. Students who engage in at least 40 hours of service during high school are eligible to earn a Service Cord to be worn at graduation--the Service Cord is the ONLY graduation cord available that is not dependent on grades, skills, or ability, but simply on a commitment to service.

Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan202020, marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader's life and legacy.
