Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We have had an eventful few days since our snow day last week.  On Thursday, we had two great events here.  First, our whole school meeting.  We love when we can all come together and celebrate our school spirit.  We spent a lot of time talking about optimism and goals we have for 2020!  Thanks to the PTA who arranged for another fun Children’s Science Center night.  Dr. Mitchell and I had a great time watching everyone participate in the stations, we even did some of them ourselves.  Thank you to all of you who volunteered to run stations, we would not have been able to have such a successful evening without you.

Finally, last night we enjoyed hearing so many of our 5th and 6th graders sing at the Marshall Pyramid Concert.  Ms. Fucile and her chorus did a phenomenal job.  We were by far the largest group on stage which is a huge testament to the strength and commitment of our Stenwood music program.

If you have not turned in your intention form, please make sure to read the blurb below.

Sincerely,
Erica Riley, Principal
Meredith Mitchell, Assistant Principal

If you have not returned the student intention form, we ask that you do so ASAP. Please take a few minutes to complete the form for each child currently enrolled at Stenwood and have your child return the form to school tomorrow.  Having information about your plans for next school year helps us to solidify our numbers; our student number play a major role in the number of teachers assigned to our school.  Your quick turn-around is appreciated.  If you are uncertain of your plans, please simply write a brief note explaining your uncertain situation.  Thank you!

LOST AND FOUND

Stenwood Community ~ Are you missing a hat, water bottle, jacket, sweater!? We have an abundance of them in the cafeteria lost and found.  Please have your student come down and check the tables.

Positivity Project ~ Prudence

This week we are focusing on Prudence. You plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices.

“When you make the right decision, it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks.”
                                                          ~Caroline Kennedy

Questions you might enjoy talking about:
• What does making good decisions have to do with prudence?
• Is it hard to make decisions in certain situations? If yes, which situations?
• Do you find it becoming harder or easier to make good decisions as you get older?

Did you know that there is a School Psychologist assigned to EVERY school in FCPS?

FCPS School Psychologists are working hard to make a positive impact on the academic and social-emotional development of all FCPS students through the provision of mental health services that build resiliency, life competencies and good citizenship.  Please follow them on Twitter @FCPSpsychs to find out more about how they impact students’ lives every day!

GPS Bracelets/Devices

A parent or guardian who wishes for their child to wear a bracelet or device with GPS capabilities, such as an AngelSense, to school must now request principal approval for the device. Parents or guardians should utilize the new Request for Principal's Approval For Student Use Of GPS Bracelet/Device (SS/SE-349). Translated forms are available at the bottom of this webpage.  If the device also includes communication features, parents must agree to disable these features during the school day and, if applicable, while on the school bus. A new request needs to be completed before each school year begins.
