News from Fairhill

SAVE THE TURTLES!

Let’s reduce the use of straws in our cafeteria in order to help save the turtles and other ocean/animal life. Our hope is to start the week of  January 20 where we will no longer have straws out for the taking.  The cafeteria will have straws in the line but they will not put them out with the utensils.  If any student asks for a straw the cafeteria employees will give them one.

As a school we are super excited about this endeavor. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns.

Fairhill Family Math Night

Please join us for Fairhill’s Family Math Night.

When? Thursday, January 30th from 5:30-7:00pm

Where? Fairhill Elementary School

Who? All Fairhill students and their families

Why? To learn about math together, play math games, and see what math instruction looks like at Fairhill!

Pizza will be available at no cost, thanks to the PTA!

*Backup date in case of snow: February 6th

Please return your RSVP (sent in the Dec. 17th Tuesday Folder or found here) to school by Friday, January 24th!

Family Science Night/Innovation Fair

The Innovation Fair is for all students from K – 6th grade, and is voluntary.  Participants can be individuals or teams (not necessarily in the same grade).

Registration forms are coming home today and need to be filled out and returned no later than Tuesday, February 4th.  Projects need to be turned in on Tuesday, February 18th to allow for proper setup. Students can bring their project to school or parents can drop it off at the library between 5:30 and 6:00 on Tuesday, February 18th.  Community viewing will be held that evening from 6:00-7:30, and the schoolwide viewing will be held throughout the schoolday on Wednesday, February 19th.   Each participant will receive a certificate from the Principal for submitting a design.  Projects must be taken home on Wednesday, February 19th at dismissal.  Most of all, the Innovation Fair is for students to HAVE FUN with Engineering Design Process!  We look forward to seeing your child’s great project!

Questions? Please email Kaleigh Hartman at kkhartman@fcps.edu

Family Science Night: Tuesday, February 18th, 6:00-7:30

  • Family viewing of Innovation Fair projects in the Library
  • Children’s Science Center will have science activities in the Cafeteria
  • Demonstrations from high school STEM clubs

Save the Date: Career Fair will be March 30th

Save the date for our second annual Career Fair on March 30, 2020! The purpose of Career Day is to expose students to a variety of careers in order to jumpstart their thinking about the future. By preparing early, students will be more likely to be college and career ready after high school graduation. Students in grades 2-6 will participate in Career Day.

However, we can’t do it without you! Please be thinking about how you can support Career Day! More information on this flyer or see today's Tuesday Folder.
