Academic Advising

ACADEMIC ADVISING

Academic Advising Season has begun. Starting January 2020, students will meet individually with their school counselor to choose their courses for the 2020-21 school year. It is so important that parents and students are informed of their academic options. Families are encouraged to talk with current teachers for their recommendations for next school year.

Throughout last week, students received information about courses, graduation requirements and electives. Westfield High hosted a Curriculum Night and Electives Fair so that students can gain the details they need to make good choices. Some students might have missed some of these things so we want to provide you with some additional resources.

WHS Student Services Google Site (only students with an fcpsschools account can access this): https://sites.google.com/fcpsschools.net/wfhsschoolcounseling/academic-advising

Both of these items should have a shortcut on your student's laptop. Please use these invaluable resources.

NEW THIS YEAR: We are asking students to put in the classes you want to take in 2020-21 into your SIS Student account. Then students will meet individually with their counselor to review the selections. What students enter in SIS is not permanent. Students will have the opportunity to discuss and make changes with their counselor. Students are asked to choose 7 classes and 3 alternate electives. Attached is a course selection sheet for students, directions to add classes in SIS and the course catalog.  Parents can always view the course selections via their SIS Parent account. If you do not have an active account, please contact Student Services to obtain a login.

All counselor meetings will take place through history classes. The individual registration meetings will start on Monday January 13th with 9th grade students.
