Lanier MS Updates - January 17, 2020

From the Principal's Desk

fhs

Good afternoon, Lanier Families,

This week has been busy at Lanier with many new things coming. Our eighth graders were able to go on a field trip to see their new school for next year. Our trip to Fairfax High School this past Thursday was wonderful! We could not have been prouder of the way our students conducted themselves, listened attentively, and asked lots of questions of the current students about electives, clubs, activities, and sports.

Recently, you may have heard the news that our Fairfax County Superintendent has recommended that all FCPS middle schools receive interior cameras. Please be on the lookout in the coming week for more information about this process and to solicit your feedback and answer your questions.

We would also like to welcome our new school board members to the county. We have invited our members to come to Lanier to see the wonderful things you were students are doing including how valuable our FCPSOn initiative has been. This is the initiative that allows each of our students to have a laptop that they take home. We were able to do this earlier than the rest of the middle schools because of the generosity of our City School Board. Since we also report to the county school board? We would like them to see how our students are learning with these valuable technology tools.

Have a warm three-day weekend. It looks to be a cold one. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King and his desire to serve others, we challenge you to get our and serve your community and volunteer. It is a great way to spend time with your middle schooler!

Sincerely,

Tammy Hanna
