Frost Middle School Rising 7th Grade Parent Orientation Night
Reminder that the Frost Middle School Rising 7th Grade Parent Orientation Night will take place on Thursday, January 16th. The main program from 6:00-7:00 PM will include the registration process for 7th grade and an overview of Frost. From 7:00-8:00 PM, elective class teachers will have displays and be available to answer questions. There will also be presentations for parents who have students who receive services through the Special Education, English Language Learner, and Advanced Academics Programs from 7:00-7:30 PM.
Due to limited space, these sessions are for parents only. Students will have the opportunity to receive this information during Frost counselor visits at the end of January and when students visit Frost in February to tour the building and elective classes. Parents and students are invited to attend the Frost Family Festival on Thursday, February 20 as well before making final class selections.
We hope you are able to join us at Frost on the 16th. In the case of inclement weather, the orientation night will take place at the same time on January 23rd. For those who cannot attend, the presentation will be available, along with additional information on upcoming transition events on the Frost website.

Save your plastic caps and lids to help the Earth!
Save your plastic caps and lids to help our Earth, and win an ice cream party! Girl Scout Troop 2779 needs your help to collect plastic bottle caps and lids from many consumer items. (Did you know that most caps and lids end up in the landfill, even when placed in the recycling bin, because they are too small to be processed by the facility’s sorting equipment?) The troop’s goal is to collect 300 pounds of caps and lids. Once they have met it, Green Tree Plastics of Indiana will exchange the caps and lids for a park bench made of 100% recycled materials for the troop to donate. This project is through Green Tree Plastic’s ABC program, which aims to teach children about caring for the earth and green living. The two classes who collect the most caps will win an ice cream party, courtesy of Toby’s Homemade Ice Cream & Coffee! Look for the collection box in your child’s classroom coming soon. Acceptable items include: Caps from: milk jugs, detergent, hair spray, toothpaste, deodorant, apple sauce pouches, drink bottles such as soda, water, juice and sport drinks, shampoo and other hair products, ointment, baby food. Lids from: cottage cheese, mayonnaise, yogurt, peanut butter, coffee cans, cream cheese, butter. All caps and lids must be clean and dry. Questions email GirlScoutTroop2779@gmail.com. Every cap counts! Thank you.

Absences, Tardies, Early Dismissals and Transportation Change Procedures
At some point of the year, almost every student will either be absent, tardy, leave early for an appointment of need a change of transportation. Please email the office at: MantuaElem.Attendance@fcps.edu and copy the classroom teacher or call the attendance line at (703) 645-6363 for anything related to attendance or dismissal. Email is always the preferred method of communication for clarity purposes.
Absences or late arrivals: Please contact the office by the above method by 9:30am. Robo calls go out at 10 am. If a student is arriving late an adult must walk them into the office and sign them in even if you have notified the office of the late arrival.
Changes in Transportation must be submitted by 1:00 PM to either the email address above or attendance line. The first month of school there will be no bus passes to go home on the bus with a friend. Students receive a pass any time there is a change of transportation. Do not send in changes more than a week in advance except for ongoing changes, see examples.
Early Dismissals should be called in early in the day. An adult on the emergency care form can pick up a student. If you call when you are approximately 5 minutes away from the school then we will try to have the student ready for you otherwise we will call for the student when you arrive. There are NO DISMISSALS between 3:40 PM and 4:05 PM.
Examples:
Please excuse Johnny Smith in Mrs. Jones’s class to Kiss and Ride today, June 20, 2099.
Please excuse Fred Flinstone to Kiss and Ride every Monday until further notice.
Please excuse Jane Doe who will arrive at 10:00 am to school due to a Dr. appt.
Let the office staff know if you have any questions.
