Dear Fort Hunt Families,
First week at Fort Hunt! What an engaging time I have had meeting teachers and parents. I have really enjoyed getting to know your students! I look forward to continuing this process in the coming days and weeks.
This week I met with 15 staff members, met 3 bus drivers, greeted 25-30 parents at a parent coffee this morning and at least 10 more at dismissal today. I am so impressed with the love and commitment teachers and parents have for the Fort Hunt school community! A few quotes from my meetings with staff and parents:
- “Here we believe, ‘You matter, you are important, you belong here.’” -Teacher
- “Love the camaraderie and teamwork here.” -Teacher
- “I love the families here at Fort Hunt.” -Teacher
- “This is such a great school! The community is really together!” -Parent
- “We are really proud of the immersion program.” -Parent
- “We chose Fort Hunt because of the school community reputation!” -Parent
I am so pleased to join such a caring community. Wednesday night I had the pleasure of meeting our PTA officers and hearing about the wonderful support they offer Fort Hunt teachers, families and students. Please consider joining PTA! Here, fill in the “Family Information,” and “Directory & Publish Preferences.” That will take you to “Join/Renew PTA membership 2019/20” section. Thanks for joining!
I look forward to continuing my meet and greets with staff, students and parents into next week and beyond. And a special thank you to our wonderful Fort Hunt office staff and our amazing assistant principal, Mrs. Pluntke for helping my transition go so smoothly. I wish everyone a fine weekend!

Dear FCPS Families,
The winter months are upon us and that can often bring challenging weather conditions. We want to remind parents, students, and staff members that FCPS monitors weather conditions daily in case school must be cancelled, delayed, or closed early due to weather. Parents and students should have a well communicated family plan in place in the event of emergency weather situations.
The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority whenever a decision is made regarding school closures and delays. FCPS reviews information from emergency management and state highway officials about road conditions, and school personnel inspect the conditions of roads, sidewalks, FCPS parking lots, and bus lanes. This information contributes to the final decision about a delay or closing.
Due to the speed of updating, the official @FCPSnews Twitter account is generally the first and fastest mode of communication. Other communication channels will be updated as quickly as possible including email, text, website, other social media, and local news stations.
FCPS tries to make decisions in the evening, realizing that parents need time to make proper arrangements. But when there is a great deal of uncertainty, we wait to receive the latest morning forecast. In that case, the superintendent decides whether to delay or close schools by approximately 4:30 a.m.
More information about weather cancellation procedures is available online.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
