Message from the Principal
Dear Sangster Community,
Happy New Year! Hope you all had a wonderful time with family and friends over the winter holidays and our snow day last week. We have all returned from the two-week vacation energized with a renewed sense of purpose and dedication. It's amazing what a few days of vacation will do for us all.
New Year’s resolutions seem like a great way to take stock of the previous year and set goals for the next one. I hope that among your New Year's resolutions is a resolve to spend some time each day reading and/or writing with your children. Setting aside as little as fifteen minutes per day can have a very positive effect on their academic achievement. Reading aloud to younger children helps model reading strategies, invites them into the world of books and prepares them for their own future reading endeavors. Reading aloud to older students helps to improve their current reading capabilities. Setting an example of writing and reading yourself lets your children know that you value and believe these are important life-long skills. A New Year's resolution to share literacy with your children is one that you will not regret.
We continue to appreciate your support and all the time you spend with your children to reinforce the importance of their education. It makes a tremendous difference to your children when they know that their progress and effort is important to you.
Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Lisa M. Reddel
Principal

Positivity Project - Week of January 21st
This week’s character strength is Perseverance. You show this strength when you complete what you start despite obstacles and never give up. For individuals, persistence can be directly connected to an individual’s ability to be successful throughout their life. Those who persevere through setbacks often reap the benefits of the success gained by refusing to give up. Sometimes, this comes with the added benefit of increased knowledge and skill as a result of the work needed to achieve. Perseverance is also connected with bravery. Persisting in a task and failing, can result in depleted self-esteem. Therefore, it takes bravery to persist in a task despite the fear of failure.
This Upcoming Week's Character Strength: Perseverance
Next Week's Positivity Project Focus: Other People Matter Mindset with an emphasis on cheering others’ successes
