A Message from the Principal

Dear Ravensworth Community,

What a difference 24-hours can make! Yesterday at this time children were playing in the snow and today the sun is out melting it all away. We had a very successful early dismissal thanks to your support by promptly picking up your children.

As we continue to experience winter weather conditions please make sure your child is aware of your plan if we have a 2-hour early release. Knowing that you have a plan in place eases your child’s concerns.

If you want to learn more about Fairfax County Public Schools’ Winter Cancellation Procedures use this link for more details. https://www.fcps.edu/resources/safety-and-transportation/weather-cancellation-procedures

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

AAP Level IV TImelines

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is due to Ravensworth ES no later than January 9, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.  Parents are welcome to submit early, but no late referrals will be accepted.  We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. While the Grade 2 screening pool casts a starting point for screening some students, test scores are only one factor in the eligibility decision.

If you would like more information about Level IV AAP services or the screening process for Level IV, there are two parent presentations available on the AAP public website  that have the same information that was shared at our local school information meetings. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

Author Visit for Grades 4-6 Students

On March 27th, author Kristen Ball will be visiting our 4th – 6th graders to share about her fictional book, A Calf Named Brian Higgins.  The book is inspired by Kristen’s real experiences from 2005, when after receiving a scholastic grant, she became the first Westerner to live in Sauri, Kenya!  Kristen has over 15 years of teaching and school administrative experience.  She spent 9 years teaching middle school where she pioneered a School-to-School program connecting her class with students in rural East Africa.  She loves traveling adventures.  Some of her favorites include hiking in the Himalayas in Nepal and canoeing along the Mekong River in Cambodia.

If you would like to purchase a copy of A Calf Named Brian Higgins for your child to read, and get signed by Kristen when she visits in March, you may do so using one of the following links.
