Glasgow Community:

Happy New Year! We are looking forward to having the building busy with students and staff tomorrow.

Winter break provided me the opportunity to relax and catch up on my to-do list around the house, including laying new hardwood floors in the living room. Most importantly, the break meant quality time with my family.

As we get back into the normal routines of school, I would like to call your attention to a few important items. First, for those of you with current 8th grade students (rising 9th graders), we hope you will join us at Justice High School for Rising 9th Grade Information & Curriculum Night Thursday, January 9 at 6:30PM. See below for additional information.

We are also looking forward to hosting parents of rising 6th graders on Wednesday, January 8 from 6-8PM to learn more about what middle school at Glasgow is all about! We will offer short (optional) sessions on our various Glasgow programs, and teachers will be in their classrooms throughout the evening to share all about our core and elective courses for 6th Graders.

Finally, they are calling for inclement weather on Tuesday. This time of year please keep an eye on the weather and possible delays and cancellations. You can learn more about the weather cancellation procedures and sign up for weather schedule alerts here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/safety-and-transportation/weather-cancellation-procedures.

As I have said before, it is privilege to work with your students each and every day. We look forward to celebrating their progress with you for the rest of year!

Glasgow Goodies!

Thank You for the Gift Card Donations - Thank you to those of you who donated gift cards. We recently used the cards as prizes for our Ugly Sweater Contest. It is amazing how much a $5 gift card is appreciated. If you would still like to donate gift cards, please feel free to drop them off at the main office or drop them in the mail to my attention. I will share the love with staff throughout the school year. Thank you so much! (It can be for any business you want to support, in any amount. Nothing is too small!)

All District Band Honorees - All District Band is an opportunity for the best band students in Southern Fairfax County, Falls Church and Alexandria to form an ensemble and play some incredible music, that may not be accessible to them in their regular schools. The ensemble will consist of approximately 90 middle school musicians. To make the ensemble students have to take part in a blind audition where they perform scales, a prepared piece and a difficult sight-reading piece, which they only have 30 seconds to look at before they have to perform it. Our band students have been working and preparing for these auditions since August, and the hard work paid off as 19 of our Glasgow students had successful auditions to make the ensemble, with 7 additional students being chosen as alternates.

Please join me in congratulating the following students on making the All-District 10 Band:  Flute: Lance Gacono, Lilly Wilson, Ingrid Zurita; Oboe; Sam Clements*, Clarinet: Colleen Early, Daniel Lee*, Arthur Prudius, Megan Reihm, Sebastian Moya; Bass Clarinet: Diego Cruz-Coca*, Noah Popp; Trumpet: Sam Brent*, Noah Canzoneri, Kidus Teshome; Trombone: Sofia Hemmens, Johnny Nguyen; Euphonium: Sabrina Ehmann-Jones*, Percussion: Christopher Shorter and Luka Mendoza-Felix. Alternates: Eleni Kapelos, Indigo Brookes-Weiss, Kaylyn Avant, Valeria Peterson, Matthew Meagh, Will Peck and Nolan Li.

*Indicates students who were ranked as the best player on their instrument in District 10. The All District 10 Band will rehearse January 30-31 with a Concert at 2:00pm on February 1 at Hayfield Secondary School.

Important Information

Sign Up for Weekly Progress Reports: All parents/guardians of middle and high school students who have registered for a SIS ParentVUE Account and have a primary email address recorded in SIS ParentVUE can receive Weekly Progress Reports via email. This report provides a summary of your student(s) grades for the current quarter.

To activate the Weekly Progress Reports via email, login to your SIS ParentVUE Account and first verify that you have a primary email address within the system. It is listed under the “My Account” tab. If it is blank, enter the email address where you would like to receive the progress reports and click on update account. Once confirmed, parents/guardians are able to activate and select their preferences for receiving these reports within the SIS ParentVUE “My Account” tab.

Weekly progress reports for all of your middle and high school students will be included in one email. FCPS Elementary Schools do not use the SIS grade book and therefore are not included in these reports. For questions about a specific progress report or grade you can login into your SIS ParentVUE Account to find detailed grade book information. Additionally, your student’s teacher is always the best resource to answer any grade book questions that you may have. Weekly Progress Report Parent Quick Reference Guide.
