A Message from the Principal

Dear Ravensworth Community,

Winter Break is upon us! I wish all of you the gift of health, happiness, and time with family and friends during this holiday season. I am thankful and honored to be working with dedicated educators, supportive parents and community members, and amazing students. Each of you help make Ravensworth such a wonderful place to learn and grow. Please take time to unplug, rejuvenate and rest over the two week break.

Take good care and Happy New Year! See you back at school on Monday, January 6, 2020.

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

Attention Grade 6 Families

Student intent form for rising 7th graders are due by Friday, December 20, 2019 before winter break. Please contact Ms. Dunbar, our registrar, in the front office if you have further questions at 703-426-3600.

Please be respectful of our neighbors

If you are parking across the street from school to walk your child to school via a crosswalk, please do not block driveways. Fairfax County ordinance states that there must be a 10 feet clearance on either side of a driveway and a 15 feet clearance on either side of a fire hydrant. The safest method of dropping off and picking up students is to use our Kiss and Ride lane. Thank you for setting a good example for your children when driving them to school.

AAP Level IV TImelines

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is due to Ravensworth ES no later than January 9, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.  Parents are welcome to submit early, but no late referrals will be accepted.  We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. While the Grade 2 screening pool casts a starting point for screening some students, test scores are only one factor in the eligibility decision.

If you would like more information about Level IV AAP services or the screening process for Level IV, there are two parent presentations available on the AAP public website  that have the same information that was shared at our local school information meetings. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

Referrals can be submitted to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Andrea Trumbull, at any time up through January 9. On Wednesday, January 8, 2020, Mrs. Trumbull will hold a drop-in referral open house where you can bring in your referral files with any supporting documentation and she can look over them with you to determine if everything is complete and formatted correctly before submitting everything the following day. Note: She cannot advise you on the content of what to include, just whether or not it is complete and meets all formatting requirements.

Positivity Project

This week our students are learning about the trait self-control. During the week of January 6th our students will focus on Optimism/Hope. You can extend your child’s learning by going to the Ravensworth website at https://ravensworthes.fcps.edu/about/positivity-project
