Fort Hunt Weekly News - Weeks of December 23rd and December 31st, 2019

Principals Corner

Staff, I would like to express my gratitude for all the support that you have shown me since I entered the doors of Fort Hunt. It has truly been a pleasure to work with such an incredible, dedicated, and competent staff.

Parents, thank you for entrusting me with your children. I have learned so much from your children in leading and encouraging them to achieve their goals and to be the Best of the Best. I am leaving Fort Hunt with mixed feelings, but  I am blessed to have led the Fort Hunt Family. Have a wonderful and safe holiday break!

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”

Chorus

Fort Hunt’s Fifth and Sixth grade chorus members performed at Reagan National Airport on Monday and Tuesday, December 16th and 17th in Terminal B. They performed their winter concert program, featuring a small band quartet which included Mrs. Hawks on flute. We are so incredibly thankful for this amazing opportunity to sing and give back to the community!

Winter Weather

Weather

Dear FCPS Families,

The winter months are upon us and that can often bring challenging weather conditions.  We want to remind parents, students, and staff members that FCPS monitors weather conditions daily in case school must be cancelled, delayed, or closed early due to weather. Parents and students should have a well communicated family plan in place in the event of emergency weather situations.

The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority whenever a decision is made regarding school closures and delays. FCPS reviews information from emergency management and state highway officials about road conditions, and school personnel inspect the conditions of roads, sidewalks, FCPS parking lots, and bus lanes. This information contributes to the final decision about a delay or closing.

Due to the speed of updating, the official @FCPSnews Twitter account is generally the first and fastest mode of communication. Other communication channels will be updated as quickly as possible including email, text, website, other social media, and local news stations.

FCPS tries to make decisions in the evening, realizing that parents need time to make proper arrangements. But when there is a great deal of uncertainty, we wait to receive the latest morning forecast. In that case, the superintendent decides whether to delay or close schools by approximately 4:30 a.m.

More information about weather cancellation procedures is available online.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.
