Message from the Principal

Dear Wolftrap Families,

NEW “QUIET ACTIVITY BOX” AVAILABLE FOR RECESS FOR GRADES 3-6

WHAT?: Starting next month, students will have more choice at recess. Students who prefer quiet play may use materials in the new Quiet Activity Box. Items include puzzle cubes, crosswords, mindfulness-themed coloring books, pickup sticks, dominos, reference books, playing cards, etc.

WHERE?: The paved area just outside the playground door #6 will be designated as the Quiet Play area. It is right next to a third-grade classroom so inside voices must be used at all times in this area.

HOW?: These activities are intended to be used individually, with a partner, or small group. The Quiet Activity Box will be placed next to the other recess bin just inside door #6. Students are responsible for ensuring all materials stay only in the designated Quiet Play area. All materials must be placed back in the box at the end of recess.

WHY?: The need for recess is universal to all children. For some, running around and being physically active at recess benefits them, while other children need down time to re-charge. Wolftrap recognizes and respects that students have different needs, styles, and preferences for play.

TESTING RESULTS UPDATE: Wolftrap has received word from central office that CogAT and NNAT results may arrive in the Wolftrap office before the break. If they do arrive, we will send those to families via US mail. It is possible that the score reports may arrive before we receive notification of students who are in the Advanced Academic pool. Please note that we will keep you informed of any pending notification from the Advanced Academic office. If you have any questions about testing, please contact Dr. Grove, who is the testing coordinator for Wolftrap.

AAP LEVEL IV REFERRAL: Parents of student in grades 2-7 may refer for full-time Level IV placement for the fall of 2020. As a reminder, the due date to refer your child is January 9 at 3:45PM. The completed packet must be submitted to the Wolftrap main office on or before this date.

PYRAMID-WIDE WINTER BREAK MESSAGE: As always in the Madison Pyramid, no homework or projects should be assigned to students over the holiday break to allow all of our students an opportunity to enjoy time with family.  We have also encouraged our teachers and staff to leave their laptops off during this time as well so they may enjoy the holiday season with their families.

WINTER BREAK: Our school office will be closed for winter break from December 23-January 3.

I hope you all enjoy a wonderful winter break and holiday season. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, January 6, 2020!

Sincerely,

Teresa Khuluki
Principal

Happy Holidays from the PTA Board! In this last edition of The Connection for 2019, we want to take a moment to thank you for all you’ve done making the first half of the year a huge success.

From parents in new roles to those in roles long standing, your efforts make Wolftrap the rich and varied place it is. Right up to break, parents are working hard for teacher appreciation and non-stop winter fun for our kids.
