I wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year!

Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test and CogAt Scores

Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (1st Grade) and CogAT (2nd Grade) scores will be sent home to parents via student backpacks this afternoon. Please check your child’s Wednesday folder for the score report.  Thank you!

Holiday Donations

Thank you to everyone who submitted holiday donations.  We were able to collect a total of $490.00.  This money has allowed us to provide a total of nineteen $25 gift cards to 17 families in need.   We have 2 gift cards that will be stored at the school and provided to needy families throughout the rest of the year.  We are proud to be part of such a caring and supportive school community. Thank you for your generosity!

Spirit Night

Spirit Night is TONIGHT, Wednesday, December 18 at Manhattan Pizza in Centreville from 4 - 9 pm. Please mention "Spirit Night" when ordering. Manhattan donates 20% of entire food and drink purchases back to Virginia Run.

Deadline for AAP Level IV Referrals

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is due no later than January 9, 2020.  No late referrals will be accepted.  We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. While the Grade 2 screening pool casts a starting point for screening some students, test scores are only one factor in the eligibility decision.

If you would like more information about Level IV AAP services or the screening process for Level IV, there are two parent presentations available on the AAP public website  that have the same information that was shared at our local school information meetings. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

Referrals can be submitted to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Mrs. Sesso, on January 9, 2020 by 4:00 pm. All referrals and optional materials must be submitted in hard copy/paper form. No electronic submissions will be accepted. Please contact Mrs. Sesso with any questions at vmsesso@fcps.edu.

Attention ALL Parents!

We are aggressively looking for the next wave of vibrant and energetic parents to lead the charge in re-energizing our volunteers for our community Virginia Run Turkey Trot race.

We have held the race for over 20 years and this is the first year we did not have a bevy of volunteers to bring this community tradition to fruition. We are hoping that leader is you and that you will have the scope of influence to get a new delegation of volunteers on board to take over this amazing event. We hope and believe that the next leader and delegation is within our families at Virginia Run Elementary.

Our community Turkey Trot has donated over 1 million dollars to Inova’s Life with Cancer program over the years. So many of our families have been affected by cancer and because of that, we have dedicated each race in someone’s honor. As a community tradition, and as a community that always comes together to help those in need, this charity is as vital to the bedrock of our neighborhood as the race itself.

Please consider leading the charge to continue the Virginia Run Turkey Trot. This event has singularly created so many family memories and traditions and helped so many dealing with cancer.

Please contact me at 703-408-9074 if you are willing to help.

Thank you in advance.

Sharon Neff
Virginia Run Resident
