Rain Rain Go Away! Although there has been a lot of improvement on the playground project we had a little slow down with all the rain! It looks like we won't have access until after break- but it will be worth the wait!

The Innovation Fair is for all students from K – 6th grade, and is voluntary.  Participants can be individuals or teams (not necessarily in the same grade).

Registration forms are coming home today and need to be filled out and returned no later than Tuesday, February 4th.  Projects need to be turned in on Tuesday, February 18th to allow for proper setup. Students can bring their project to school or parents can drop it off at the library between 5:30 and 6:00 on Tuesday, February 18th.  Community viewing will be held that evening from 6:00-7:30, and the schoolwide viewing will be held throughout the schoolday on Wednesday, February 19th.   Each participant will receive a certificate from the Principal for submitting a design.  Projects must be taken home on Wednesday, February 19th at dismissal.  Most of all, the Innovation Fair is for students to HAVE FUN with Engineering Design Process!  We look forward to seeing your child’s great project!

Questions? Please email Kaleigh Hartman at kkhartman@fcps.edu

Family Science Night: Tuesday, February 18th, 6:00-7:30

  • Family viewing of Innovation Fair projects in the Library
  • Children’s Science Center will have science activities in the Cafeteria
  • Demonstrations from high school STEM clubs

Dreambox

Have you seen our Dreambox Hall of Fame at Fairhill?  Students who have completed all the Dreambox standards in every grade level below their current one have a certificate hanging in this hallway.  At the beginning of the year, only 5 students accomplished this.  The number of certificates increased more than ten-fold.  We believe every Fairhill tiger can achieve this!  Do you want to see EXACTLY what your child’s classroom teacher can see in terms of math progress on Dreambox?  Create a parent account by following these directions here.

News from Luther Jackson MS

Reg Bag Donor Program

ATTN: Luther Jackson Nation! We need 50 more families in our community to volunteer to be "Red Bag" donors so we can make sure all of our children are fed.

The "Red Bag" program allows us to provide food for our students who need it over weekends and holidays when they aren't in school. Please share this information with your friends in the Falls Church HS pyramid. Here's the Food for Neighbors website where you can easily sign-up: https://www.foodforneighbors.org/red-bag-program/ And, if you're on Facebook, please share this there as well.

The full story: There are several dozen students in our pyramid that rely on the school's pantry for the weekend and holiday meals. In fact, this organization started because a PTA President in Herndon several years ago realized that most food programs focus on elementary school kids and that their school didn't have a program. Food for Neighbor's reach has grown across Fairfax County and LJMS' PTA recently agreed to "adopt" middle and high schools around Falls Church and Tysons. All of that to say, we need to come up with a lot of "red bag" donors.

If you sign-up, you are committing to fill a red grocery bag every two months and leave it out for pickup on scheduled Saturday mornings (1/11/2020, 3/7, 5/2, 9/12, etc.). Bags are picked up, taken to the local hub school, contents sorted, representatives from each school select the items they need and take their bins back to their school.

Here's a link for more information, and how to sign-up. We hope you'll consider becoming a "Red Bag" donor. Thanks.
