Attention Grade 6 Families

Today in your child’s Wednesday Folder is a student intent form for rising 7th graders. They are due by December 20, 2019 before winter break.  Please contact Ms. Dunbar our registrar in the front office if you have further questions.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is filling up with coats and jackets.  We plan to put the lost and found items out in the front lobby on the afternoon of Monday, December 9th.  Parents attending the concert on Monday night are welcome to look for lost items then or during arrival on Tuesday, December 10th.  Teachers will also take their students by the tables to look at the items on Tuesday.

AAP Level IV

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline for referring students in Grades 2-7 for AAP full-time Level IV consideration is due to Ravensworth ES no later than January 9, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.  Parents are welcome to submit early, but no late referrals will be accepted.  We advise parents not to wait for pending abilities test scores if they would like their student screened. While the Grade 2 screening pool casts a starting point for screening some students, test scores are only one factor in the eligibility decision.

If you would like more information about Level IV AAP services or the screening process for Level IV, there are two parent presentations available on the AAP public website  that have the same information that was shared at our local school information meetings. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

Referrals can be submitted to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Andrea Trumbull, at any time up through January 9.  On Wednesday, January 8, 2020, Mrs. Trumbull will hold a drop-in referral open house where you can bring in your referral files with any supporting documentation and she can look over them with you to determine if everything is complete and formatted correctly before submitting everything the following day. Note: She cannot advise you on the content of what to include, just whether or not it is complete and meets all formatting requirements.

Positivity Project

This week our students are learning about the trait kindness.  Kind people think about the needs and feelings of other people, and then act to help those people.  Kind people are selfless.  An individual with the strength of kindness helps others because it’s the right thing to do, not because they expect any reciprocal treatment or gain in reputation.  Last year our generous PTA purchased a Buddy Bench for our playground.  As part of the Positivity Project and our focus on kindness, we are sharing with students how they can show kindness by inviting students sitting on the buddy bench to play.  If you want to learn more about a Buddy Bench watch this clip from NBC Nightly News https://youtu.be/iVWp4j3f2UY  During the week of December 9th our students will focus on humility.  You can extend your child’s learning by going to the Ravensworth website at https://ravensworthes.fcps.edu/about/positivity-project
