December 23- January 3 Winter Break – No School

Winter Break

Winter break is December 23 through January 3. The school and office will be closed during this time. Students should return to school on Monday, January 6. The Hayfield ES staff wishes you a joyous holiday season.

Holiday Donations – Can You Help?

As the holiday season approaches, we are seeking ways to support our Hayfield Hawks in need. Many of you have inquired about how your family can help out by making donations. For this holiday season, we are collecting gift cards to grocery stores or “all-purpose stores” (ex: Target, Wal-Mart, Giant, Safeway, Shopper etc.) to help lighten the burden for some of our families. If you are able, please bring a gift card of any amount (with the amount noted on the card) to Hayfield and we will ensure that it is gifted to a family in need.

Please send the gift cards in an envelope addressed to the counselors or social worker, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Lee or Ms. Cann. Your student can give the envelope to his/her classroom teacher to be sent down to the main office in the morning. We will start collecting the gifts cards now and will continue to collect through December 16th, 2019.

We are so lucky to have such an amazing and supportive Hayfield family and we truly appreciate any donation that you can contribute.

Thank you so much and we wish you Happy Holidays!

Lost and Found

Please have your children check for any missing items before dismissal on December 12. All lost and found items not picked up by December 12 will be donated to charity.

Y-Tie Announcement

We have stocking stuffers for your family!  Y-Ties are great for keeping those shoelaces in check and avoiding possible accidents from dangling laces. We have many colors for $3.00 a pair. We also have some brown or black boot laces which are $6.00 a pair. Let your child pick their favorite or make arrangements to pick up a pair without them knowing by contacting Ruth Drickey at 703-924-4532 or by email at RIDrickey@fcps.edu.  Cash or check payable to Hayfield Elementary.

Ornament Announcement

Hayfield Elementary has its own ornament to commemorate the re-dedication of our school upon its renovation several years ago.  It is a pewter ornament that features the school entrance on its face.  This is a wonderful reminder of your elementary school and a memory keepsake. To order your ornament send in a $10.00 check made payable to Hayfield Elementary.

Angel Tree and Toys for Tots

The SCA’s first service project (our Angel Tree and Toys for Tots) is ongoing until December 13. We will be collecting unwrapped NEW hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens. We are also collecting unwrapped NEW toys, games, and books.  All items will be given to deserving children in our community this holiday season.  As the holiday seasons draw near, keep our service project in mind and help your child pick out some items to bring to school in December.  Look for our tree in the lobby!

SCA Spirit Day-Ugly Sweater

The SCA is sponsoring an Ugly Sweater Spirit Day on Friday, December 20. This is optional but students are welcomed and encouraged to participate in this fun event by wearing an ugly sweater this day.

Snow and Icy Walking Paths

While safety is always our first priority, there are areas in the neighborhood that students may take to come to school that are not the school’s responsibility to maintain.

Certainly if parents feel that the walking conditions are not safe during these winter months, they may make alternate decisions to ensure their children’s safety in coming to and from school.

Military Family Life Counselor

The Department of Defense has offered MFLC’s to several schools who serve military families, and we are one of them! Hayfield Elementary has been assigned a School Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC), Ms. Saundra Jackson. We will be sharing Ms. Jackson with Fort Belvoir Elementary School and she will be at Hayfield two days a week on Mondays and Fridays.

The MFLC is here to support the military dependents and their families. The MFLC Program is to provide non-medical counseling services and short-term problem resolution to military children and those that support them.  If you would like to get in touch with Ms. Jackson, please contact the office.
