Parent Partnership Meetings (Update)

Coates Parents,

THANK YOU for coming out in great numbers last week to share your stories, make better connections with other families, and enlighten our teachers.  This was a great event for us as a school community, and it truly served its purpose.  Our relationship is better for it (and it was already good!).

Special thanks to Mrs. Leona Smith-Vance, FCPS Director of Equity and Family Partnerships and proud Coates parent.  She took input from with me, Mrs. Tisha Bowman (PTA president), Mrs. Stephanie Hando (Coates teacher), & Mrs. Solangie McPherson (parent liaison) to plan and facilitate a terrific meeting.  We’re lucky to have her!

In case you missed our social media posts, we had over 80 people in attendance for this meeting, including 17 teachers!  I could not have been happier with the turnout.  Mrs. Bowman and I felt like we had great representation of the larger Coates community.  We were also awed by how many common goals, hopes, and experiences we noticed as our large, diverse group shared their stories.   Thank you for putting yourself out there!

What’s Next?

Come join the conversation on December 4 at 6:30.  Even if you missed session 1, join us!  We’ll continue this work toward a home-school partnership agreement.  One specific task we’ll complete is an analysis of last spring’s Family Engagement Survey results.  We need parents to bring their perspective to this so that our school can fix what needs fixing and maintain what’s welcoming and supportive about our school culture.  Expect more honest sharing and expect to make even more connections with the staff and other great families!

We will be announcing a final meeting in January where we’ll leverage all our work so far to draft a well-informed home-school partnership agreement.  Thanks for participating in this process!

Proud to Serve,

Jesse Kraft, Principal
