WTW PTSO WeMail - November 26

Happy Thanksgiving from the PTSO

Thanksgiving

The Woodson PTSO Board wishes you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.

We are thankful for the many volunteers who have done so much already this year for the WTW staff and students.

As a reminder, there is no school for students from Wednesday, November 27th through Friday, November 29th.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Woodson Administration

This week we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.   We would like to wish our community a restful and peaceful time away.  Our hope is for everyone to take time to decompress and have time with families and friends.

When we return from break we will have 15 school days before the winter holiday 2 week break!   Let’s make this the best 15 days thus far this year!

Sponsor Student(s) on Field Trips

Did you know that some students are unable to participate in Woodson field trips due to the cost?  Most FCPS field trips are considered optional and enrichment opportunities, therefore students on free and reduced lunch do not qualify for financial assistance.

Since the cost of these field trips cannot be covered by FCPS, students in need (as defined by the Woodson Administration and Counseling Staff) often stay behind and miss this enrichment opportunity.

Most field trips cost under $20 and that is just to cover the transportation to the activity.  Woodson PTSO has agreed to help cover these costs so that ALL students have the opportunity to visit a museum, tour the Capitol, or experience an event that enhances their learning.

Please consider making a donation to the PTSO to sponsor one or more students so they can join their classmates on their field trip.  Make your donation here:

Fall Sports Highlights

WTW Girls Volleyball continued its historic run to States last Tuesday, meeting Washington & Liberty on their court and winning the Semi-Final match 3-0. The Cavs took the first set 25-23 as the Generals were strong competition. Our back row defense, led by Jordan Lyons and Jaden Reasor, shut down the Generals offense in the next sets. They took the second set 25-19 and dominated the third with a 25-17 win for the game. By the end of the night, hitter Amy Burkhardt put 20 kills on the board. Our power hitting was due to excellent setting led by Nicole Gibson along with the strong defensive playing. That included our front row, led by Olivia Guerra and Katie Burruss, both racking up 5 blocks a piece.  Celebration was in order for the night as Jaden Reasor surpassed 1,000 digs in her high school career! Special shout out to Maggie Cox, who has always stepped on the court and served well, contributing to this and many wins.

Our ladies boarded the bus Friday morning headed to Richmond for the Class 6 State Championship at VCU against the 4 time State Champion Floyd Kellam Knights, followed later by a bus filled with their WT Woodson classmates eager to cheer them on in their first ever appearance in the State Championship. The Cavs came out strong for a first set win of 25-18. The Knights adjusted their game and, though our girls fought hard, Kellam went on to win the next three sets to end the season. For the first time in school history, Woodson varsity volleyball ended the 2019 season as Patriot District Champions, Occoquan Region 6C Champions and Second Place 6A State Champions. They ended the season with a record of 27-5.

This successful team could not have gone so far without the support of a great school. Thank you students, parents, families, staff, administration and the entire Woodson community for your tremendous support. Woodson had the largest student body present at the State Final on Friday! Thank you to all who showed up and cheered this team of champions all the way through to the end!
