Kindness/Attendance

Dear Marshall Road Families,

As Thanksgiving grows near, we will continue to learn and celebrate gratitude next week at Marshall Road ES.  When we return after Thanksgiving we will begin a month long project reviewing kindness.  Every student and teacher will join us on our journey to practice kindness to ourselves, around our school, in our homes and throughout the community.  Please join us as we explore how it feels to be kind to others and how it feels to receive kindness from others.  When you are visiting our campus throughout the month of December, take a picture in front of our huge kind board and become the “I” in KIND.  We will tweet pictures every day in December as all our students and teachers become the “I” in KIND.

We love having all of our students at school as consistently as possible while understanding that unexpected things come up.  Below is a summary of an email that FCPS sent out earlier week regarding attendance.

FCPS expects students to be in school and follow their assigned schedules unless their absence is excused due to illness, a death in the family, a medical or dental appointment, or religious obligations. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) requires FCPS to report all absences. After receiving 5 unexcused absences, FCPS will send an email notification to parents making them aware of their student’s attendance record.

Please review Marshall Road Attendance Policies and Procedures at https://marshallroades.fcps.edu/about/attendance-procedures.

We wish you all a peaceful and joyful Thanksgiving holiday break.  However you celebrate this time of year, we hope you find time to relax with family and friends.  Ask your children about gratitude and how they might show gratitude over the upcoming long weekend.  If you are traveling, please be safe and enjoy the time off.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Heiges, Matt Chapman and Sue Kirby
