Message from the Principal

Langley HS

Dear Families,

As we are entering the holiday season, it is important we remember that time off should be a break from academic pursuits. In order to assist with this effort, I sent the following message to teachers earlier this week. It is my hope that families will have meaningful time together during the days away from school.

Dear Langley Staff,

As you are aware, our students work hard and spend a great deal of time outside of school completing assignments and participating in school activities during the school year.  I would like to help our students find a healthy balance of school, work, and family/friends time during the upcoming Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks.  Similarly, I wish the same for each of you. I would like for you to spend that precious time with your family, friends and loved ones.

With these sentiments in mind, here are a few guidelines regarding breaks.

  • Students are not to be required to complete work over school breaks.
  • Be reasonable with due dates.  Provide enough time for students to complete their work within the normal school calendar without the need to work over breaks.  Though you may have a long-term assignment that spans over a school break, no work is to be due immediately (the first 2 days) after a break.
  • Pace yourself in to avoid major assessments immediately after breaks.

The guidelines above are in the spirit of honoring family and family traditions as we simultaneously address issues of student stress.  These adjustments provide us another opportunity to reach out to our community with a united, student-centered philosophy.

While Thanksgiving is the time to enjoy lavish feasts and the company of loved ones, it’s also a time to give thanks. So, as this year’s holiday rapidly approaches, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for each of you and your efforts which help to make Langley High such a special place for our students and staff.

Fondly,

Kimberly Greer
