Happy Thanksgiving Wolverines!

  • I am starting to fully understand the power of gratitude.  Being grateful for things big and small, improves your overall outlook on life.
  • I am grateful for my faculty and staff who are dedicated and sacrificial in supporting students and one another; they inspire me.
  • I am grateful for my students who are caring, powerful, young people; they bring me joy.
  • I am grateful for my supportive, tireless community who continually advocate for the needs of our school; they empower me.
  • I am grateful for my family who encourages me in ways that allow me to bring my full self to everything I do; they love me.

Enjoy your Holiday and Thank you!

Ms. Millard

Positive Coaching Alliance Partnership

This year the West Potomac athletic department has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance. Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is a national non-profit organization with the mission of creating a positive, character-building youth sports environment that results in better athletes, better people. On December 9th, we will be hosting our first PCA workshop for parents as well as a workshop for our coaches.  The entire athletic department is asking that all parents who have athletes participating in a sport at West Potomac attend this workshop in order to gain more understanding into how we can all work together to create a positive culture of success for all athletes.

The workshop will run from 7 pm - 8:30 pm in the auditorium.

Planning has begun for the 2020 WPHS All-Night Graduation Celebration!  The party will be held on the night of graduation: Thursday, June 4th, from 9:30 pm to 4:00 am Friday, June 5th. ANGC provides a safe, fun-filled way for our seniors to celebrate their graduation.

We need your help to make the 2020 celebration a success!  There are many ways you might volunteer to help plan and organize or help during the actual event.  Please feel free to contact Rebecca Losee at angcwestpo2020@gmail.com if you can help in any capacity. Thank you in advance for your participation!

Federal Impact Aid- Reminder

Federal Impact Aid forms were sent home through Advisory on October 21.  Please complete these forms and return them to school.  Even if you do not think you qualify, we are required to collect forms from all families.  As we face budget issues each year, the information gathered from this survey can be critical to providing funding to the county, FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3,000,000 from the Impact Aid Grant this year.

Again, accurate and timely completion of the form is essential because FCPS requires 100% completion for all schools.  Each student enrolled at West Potomac High School must turn in a completed form.  Please know that personal information will be kept confidential.

Please help WPHS get 100% of the forms back as soon as possible.

SAT/ACT Test Prep and Updates

7 Reasons to Take the ACT

1) Accepted Everywhere It’s Concrete.

2) The SAT can be abstract, but the ACT is more straightforward. It’s clear what you’re being asked without the added step of interpreting the question. Whether you’re applying to your local college or an Ivy League school, a school that focuses on STEM or the most artsy of liberal arts, the ACT can get you there. Every college accepts it without prejudice.

3) No Hunting for Specific Lines There are no multi-step questions in the Reading section. This means you don’t have to spend time hunting for evidence in specific lines.

4) Less Fatigue The sections of the ACT are short. You don’t have to worry that your focus will fade or that boredom will set in!

5) Aggressive Guessing Yields High Scores. The ACT is fast paced but you don’t have to be perfect to be impressive. You can guess on select problems and do great.

6) Word Problems are less wordy! If pulling equations out of narratives sounds like a chore, ACT word problems are simple and the correct operations are more obvious than on the SAT.

7) Not-So-Mad Scientist - Don’t be afraid of the science section. You don’t need to be a master of the Periodic Table. The questions are based on your ability to move quickly through charts, tables, and graphs.
