Visitor Management System

vms

Shrevewood, along with all FCPS schools, use a visitor management system in the main office in order to ensure the safety of our students and staff during the school day.  You will need your government issued photo identification (Driver's License, DMV issued ID, Passport, Military ID) each time you enter the building or are on the fields during school hours.

Take Home Reading Bag Program

Students in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades will be participating in the Shrevewood Take-Home Reading Bag Program! Research shows that reading a large number of books helps students to become better readers and that students need access to books at their own level. The goal of Take-Home Reading Bags is to get children into the “groove” of reading by providing books at a comfortable reading level to read at home. Reading at this level promotes the fluency and comprehension.  These books have been introduced in guided reading and your child should be able to read them with minimal support.  Students are responsible for bringing their books back and forth between home and school daily.

Kiss & Ride

SHREVEWOOD KISS & RIDE GUIDELINES

Most elementary schools in Fairfax County have established an area called the Kiss & Ride, which is designed as a safe place for adults in private vehicles to load and unload children. The Kiss & Ride is separate from the school bus area, which helps schools to avoid problems associated with cars passing buses, or cars parking in bus only zones and fire lanes. It also establishes a pedestrian traffic pattern to keep children safe. Our hope is that if all drivers cooperate with guidelines, we will be able to provide an efficient and safe transfer of children. To ensure safety for everyone, observe the following rules when loading and unloading children:

  • All cars must follow the designated route for Kiss & Ride. See map below for further details.
  • You must display your Kiss & Ride number that you are assigned in your windshield EVERY DAY at pick up.
  • Pull forward as far as possible into four drop off zones before loading or unloading.
  • Load and unload in the Kiss & Ride area only.
  • Load and unload from the passenger side of the car only.
  • Keep “good-byes” brief.
  • Remain in the driver’s seat. (Staff members can assist with car doors.)
  • Do not pass other cars that are loading or unloading unless directed to do so.
  • Do not park in the Kiss & Ride lane and leave your car unattended.
  • Do not park in the parking lot to load or unload children.
  • All students must wear seatbelts and/or be in a carseat if appropriate. Exit Kiss & Ride promptly after loading or unloading children.
  • As designated by Virginia Law, Shrevewood parking lot is a hands-free cell phone zone.
