WIMS Book Club for Parents/Guardians and Staff

We are excited to launch a parent/guardian and staff book club! Join us in reading the book "Middle School Matters" by Phyllis Fagell in the WIMS Book Club. We will utilize a book guide created by the author as we read and discuss the book.  The book club will meet from 6:15-7:00 pm (45 minutes before PTA meetings) on  February 11,  March 10, May 12, and June 9. Light refreshments will be provided during each meeting. If you would like to participate in the book club, please complete the form linked below and we will send the book home with your student. We look forward to rich discussions and learning from all participants!

Fairfax Connector

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is reviewing Fairfax Connector bus service in the Franconia-Springfield area, and we need YOUR input! With the information collected so far through phase I of the public input process as well as technical analysis, FCDOT has developed three (3) service alternatives and will create a preferred service plan based on the continued public feedback and analysis.

Please join us for an upcoming meeting or take the survey (English and Spanish). We need to hear from you!

Library News

A Fine Dining Experience among Good Books. This week, 8th grade English students had standing reservations at Irving’s “Chez Livre,” (loosely translated “House of Books”).  Students sampled the various genres of fiction books that are available, selecting an appetizer, and entrée and a dessert to taste.  At the end of their dining experience, students had generally found a book that they look forward to devouring!  Upon checking out, even the most reluctant of participants in our game of “pretend” couldn’t hold back a smile when we offered them an “after dinner mint” and reminded, “Please come again,” as they exited.  Ask your 8th grader if they can remember which three books they “tasted” in the library and why they chose the book they did.

If you have a long drive in store for you next week, please remember to get a book to read or to borrow the electronic and / or audiobooks available by logging in to “Irving Middle School” and using their network ID and password on mackinvia.com
