Message from the Principal

Dear Sangster Families,

Thanksgiving is just around the corner.   We have been enjoying the book fair and Thanksgiving lunches at school this week.  Thanks to all of you who volunteered to help make it a terrific and memorable experience.

I love the Thanksgiving holiday when family and friends get together just for the sake of being together.  It does not require the purchase of gifts, just giving thanks.   It is also a wonderful time of year to create family and generational connections that are so important to our children.

During this Thanksgiving season, I hope that you and your family will be able to spend quality time together.   I wish for all of you a Thanksgiving where you can focus on your blessings and take joy in your family.  Thanks for all you do to make our community a wonderful place.  I am thankful for you!

Your Partner in Education,

Lisa M. Reddel

Principal

Sangster Elementary Advanced Academic Level IV Referral and Screening Information Meeting

Tuesday, December 3, 2019

7:00 p.m. in the Sangster Cafeteria

The Level IV Advanced Academic Program (AAP) is a highly challenging instructional program in the four core subject areas. Students qualify for this program through a county-wide screening process that considers the Gifted Behaviors Rating Scale with commentary, ability test scores, achievement test scores, report cards, work samples, and parent input on the referral and questionnaire. All second grade students are considered each year based on assessments given in first and second grade. All students in grades 2 to 6 can also be considered if a parent submits the AAP Level IV Referral Form. All parents interested in learning more about the Level IV referral and screening process should attend this meeting.

This meeting will address the following information:

  • Important dates and deadlines
  • Screening materials
  • Work samples
  • Level IV expectations and curriculum

Referrals for the Level IV Advanced Academic Program are due January 9, 2019

For more information and to view forms, please visit:

or contact Jennifer Redford, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, at

IMPORTANT NOTE: We do not recommend parents wait to receive ability test scores before submitting a referral due to the tight timeline.

Positivity Project - Week of November 25th

This week’s character strength is Gratitude. Out of all 24 character strengths, gratitude is the single best predictor of individual well-being. It is correlated with increased energy, empathy, happiness and optimism. And, the great thing about gratitude is that it can be intentionally cultivated. Numerous studies have concluded that gratitude is like a muscle. The more you practice it, the stronger it gets – and the more you’re able to reap its benefits.

Next Week’s Positivity Project Focus:     Kindness
