Dear Families,
I have some fun news to share with you: I will be a contestant on an upcoming episode of Wheel of Fortune! My dad and I watched the show religiously when I was a child. He died when I was fifteen and I hadn’t watched the show in over 30 years. However, when there was a local Wheelmobile event in the summer, I decided to audition. Long story short – I was selected to be on the show! I had a BLAST! I am not permitted to reveal anything about the outcome of the episode, so you will have to tune in to see how it goes. The episode airs on DECEMBER 4 at 7:00 PM. If your child is performing in the strings concert that night, be sure to set your DVRs!

Turkey Trot Fun Run Fundraiser
Due to the forecast of rain on Friday, November 22, the Turkey Trot will be held Monday, November 25, 2019.
Join us as we run/walk/skip/jog laps together to support CWES! The SCA is sponsoring this event to raise funds for the purchase and installation of water bottle filling stations, to be used by staff and students alike. We will install up to three stations as funds allow; remaining funds will be used to improve CWES’s outdoor classroom.
Throughout the year, the CWES Environmental club will promote the use of refillable water bottles and raise awareness about the positive impact students and staff can have on the environment.
Get fit and have fun while helping CWES and the environment!
Note this event is optional and will take place on the back field during your child’s regularly scheduled recess time.

Canterbury Woods Strings Winter Concert for grades 4th, 5th and 6th
Our 4th, 5th and 6th grade strings students are ready to perform for you! The concert demonstrates the mastery of tasks achieved during strings class and individual student practice at home. This is a culminating event of the class and as such all students are expected to attend the concert and rehearsals. Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Susens are thankful to be a part of your child’s musical journey. Please do not hesitate to contact us Ms. Mitchell email or Ms. Susens email if we can answer any questions or concerns.

Please take note of the below dates and times for strings rehearsals and concerts for Grades 4 and 5-6.
Practice: Monday, November 25 10:25-11:25 Gr. 6, SACC room
Sixth grade students will bring instruments/music and wear regular school clothes.
Practice: Monday, December 2nd 9:30-10:30am, Gr. 4
Students will bring instrument and music to school on this day and will wear regular school clothes.
Concert: Wednesday, December 4th
5:45-6:15 PM 4th Grade
Students arrive at 5:15 in concert clothes (white top, dark bottoms) for tuning and seating.
7:00-7:45 PM 5th and 6th Grades
Students arrive at 6:30 in concert clothes (white top, dark bottoms) for tuning and seating.

2019 Food Drive Success
Thank you for helping us to reach our goal of helping many families in our community this holiday season!!!
This year, CWES donated 4,779 items for our food drive. Those donations will be distributed throughout the community! Special thanks to the 6th graders for bringing in 2,212 items, thus winning a special prize with Mrs. Brown!!

Impact Aid Forms Reminder
FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education.
These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.
All forms must be signed, dated, and returned before November 22, 2019.
Restaurant Night at Chipotle
Fairfax Chipotle (9506 Main Street, Fairfax)
Wednesday, December 11 from 5-9 PM
Take a break from making dinner during the busy holiday season and support the CWES PTA!
- If we, as a community, spend over $300, Chipotle very generously will donate 33% of proceed revenue (the amount we spend) to CWES PTA!
- Present the Chipotle flyer to the cashier. Flyers can be found in the THT envelopes or bring a picture of it on your phone.
- Tell the cashier you're part of the CWES fundraiser.
- Online orders do not count as part of our fundraiser revenue - you have to place the order at the restaurant.
