THANKSGIVING MESSAGE

As I reflect on Longfellow as a “world class” school, I am so very grateful for our amazing teachers, students, parents, and staff members. I think of all that is positive in our lives. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work and generous contributions which make Longfellow Middle School such a special place to learn and grow. I am appreciative of our incredible staff whose steadfast dedication and constant focus guide our students to success. I’m thankful for our supportive parents who make a tremendous difference in the lives of all our students! Last, but certainly not least, I’m thankful for our students who work hard, take risks, and challenge themselves to do their best every single day! I consider it a tremendous honor to be your principal at Longfellow Middle School. May you all enjoy a festive holiday filled with family, friends, joy, peace, and fun!

NEWS FROM THE LONGFELLOW LIBRARY

Happy (almost) Thanksgiving Longfellow Community! Ms. Hoyle and Ms. Saladino want to share our GRATITUDE for all the support the Library has received so far this year. All students at LMS attended an orientation to the Library at the start of the school year. Since then we have seen classes for book talks as well as lessons on plagiarism, note taking, citations, research and other research skills. We have enjoyed meeting all of your children and we love discussing their favorite reads. At Longfellow, students have opportunities to visit the library before school, during lunch, during Lancer Time and after school. Students visit the library to read, check out books or use the computers. Coming soon is the Longfellow Book Fair! The Bookfair runs from December 9th-13th and every student will have an opportunity to visit the Bookfair during one of their English classes that week. In order to have a successful bookfair, and raise money for the library, we do need lots of help! Please consider giving the gift of time to help at the LMS Bookfair. SPARTAN TEAM COFFEE

Spartan Team Coffee will be held on Tuesday, December 10th in room 110 (Ms. Kane’s Room) from 8:30 – 9:00 am. This is a great opportunity to hear about the curriculum and assignments that your child is working on. We want to bring in the Holiday Cheer! Our team coffee will be a cookie exchange! We encourage parents to bring some cookies to swap with other parents and teachers. We will provide the coffee. We hope to see you there!

8TH GRADE PARTY PLANNING MEETING

8th grade parents, please join us for our first planning meeting on Tuesday, December 3rd, 9am at the Chesterbrook Starbucks. We are seeking volunteers for various tasks such as chaperones, serve food, decorations and clean up. Looking forward to seeing you.

LONGFELLOW HOLIDAY COOKIE BUFFET – WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18th

Please consider signing up to bring a delicious home-baked sweet to help our Longfellow teachers and staff celebrate the holidays. Longfellow 8TH Grade students can earn 1 service hour for baking a delicious treat. Please bring your donations to the Food Lab or front office on December 18th by 9:30 a.m. Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090F4FA8AE2EABFA7-holiday3. Thank you and happy baking!

CHINA EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Applications are now open for students to host and/or travel to China in 2020 as part of our very first China Exchange Program at Longfellow Middle School!
We will be welcoming 15-20 students from our partner school in China, from Friday, January 31st to Friday, February 7th, 2020. They will be hosted by Longfellow students and immersed in classes during the week with all programming to be coordinated by our trusted third party Alpha Exchange. For each student hosted, families will receive a $200 stipend or $500 credit towards the China trip during Spring Vacation. The trip will run from Wednesday, April 1st to Saturday, April 11th and cost $3,200 per student ($2,700 or $2,400 for students that hosted 1-2 students). We will visit our partner school and homestay with the Chinese exchange students in Yichang and enjoy 3 days of sightseeing in Beijing, including visits to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven and the Great Wall of China.
